Just an extra point to note on my video: that little grub screw, when turned in, will move the worm gears apart when moved out it will move them closer, the bolts on the side will then clamp it in place so tiny adjustments and test is best.

Hi Boodlewoodle. Nice tutorial. Have you got any advice with regard to slack on the cog on the motor? My slack is not on the big cogs but instead on the small cog on the shaft directly from the motor. Also thanks for your videos about making stuff on a budget, you really inspired me in many ways :-)

You need to tighten up the small grub screws on the shaft that hold the gears cog in place. Just a general tighten up of the grub screws on all the gears shafts is a sound idea. Budget stuff is a necessity in these hard times Im afraid but if it helps others all well and good.

Yes pretty normal just tighten it up as best you can a little bit of slack is going to happen in these units any way there not wonderful bits of engineering being mass produced items.

Just found this Video ....when using myEQ5 mount very close to the Zenith the motion is not smooth on the RA fine adjustment ..would 'taking up the slack ' cure this ??

Removing backlash from your wormgear and cogs is going to improve it, yes but also using good grease is a must too.
