Hi Petr Vesely the set up was fun to do and worked ok but it I only used it on those perfect nights as it took a while to set up and get working. Practice wise I used an unguided system for over 2 years before attempting this.If you can afford it get an Heq5 mount it will make your life much easier in the long run.

Very nice video and really just what I've been looking for...one question, can you use it as go to as well like the synscan go to upgrade for that mount?

No not a problem the biggest problem is dew forming on the secondary mirror so you have to keep an eye on your images and use a hair-dryer if they start getting foggy.

This thing is SO frustrating! I can't get the controller Box to work, and since i have the exact same setup, this really drives me mad. Pictures of the wiring for the ST4-Port do not really help, even the Pin-configuration differs from blog to blog. All i wanted was a working guiding thingy without spending half a fortune, and all i got now are 55€ less in my wallet and a burned finger from the soldering iron. Does anyone have a picture of his wiring i could try to rebuild?

Search KZitem for "poor man's goto". I wrote it, but haven't really tested it in practice yet. It works as "Go From To", if you understand what I mean. It uses the same modification of the controller as mentioned in this video.

Its worth it if your tight on cash but if you can afford a better system then do that I am hard up and necessity is the mother of invention as they say but it does work and was fun to do. If your a complete noob then forget guiding for at least a year until you have done some imaging. You can do a lot with out guiding at least enough to keep you happy for a year so dont get bogged down with guiding just yet is my advice.

Just a quick update, I now use Tom Carpenters Astroeq mount controller instead of the above it gives me full go to as well as guiding. So my advice is abandon this method and get an astroeq, see my latest video on using astroeq its a great solution and combined with astro tortilla is amazing.

Worth it if your on a budget but I would rather have an Heq5 mount if I could afford it.

It is possible but guiding is a pain to do and takes a long time to set up so if your just starting off I would do unguided first.

Hi optimumw1 might I suggest that you take a look at AstroEQ it has replaced this old set up and is much better allowing me not only to guide with out the st4 port but also gives me a fully working go to system that used the free open software Ascom and Eqmod. Full detail on this system can be found on my blog astrocasto.blogspot.com Or head over to the stargazers lounge forum where you will find me as Quatermass.

how much i must except to cost me all this set up?
@boodlewoodle
10 жыл бұрын
optimumw1 It is cheaper then upgrading to the synscan upgrade for the eq5 mount for sure and if you cannot afford the HEQ5 mount with built in better gears then this is a good option for your EQ5 mount. I will cost you another 200.00 approx on top of the cost of your EQ5 mount 90.00 for the dual axis kit from skywatcher unless you already have the Dec and RA gears of course,and 90.00 for the Astroeq mount controller box.

Having done this video 9 years ago I would advise anyone looking at it now to go to my blog astrocasto.blogspot.come and have a catch up on what I am now doing this system certainly worked but there are better options and things have changed a lot. Clear skies Mark.

A lot of reviews say not to use EQ5 for astro photography as the mount is not strong enought to take all the weight. I guess you have had no problem with it?

I think it was about 60 quid

I would say that is not true its a very good mount and I have had no issues with it but that is because I do not use a guided set up very often which adds more weight. The HEQ5 mount would be best for the job if you intend to have a full guided set up though. Check my blog astrocasto.blogspot.com
