I truly feel that man’s emotion is exactly what BANKSY is about.. On any other day people will purposefully avoid that side or area of the city...but since it was said a true Banksy piece appeared.. people then knowingly went out of their way to enter that side of town. A place with a stigma of harsh beings and even harsher behavior. Whoever that man was, was and is the art in real life form. Art is something that shows emotion while you’re showing that emotion back. Whatever that emotion is, you just feel something. Simply, thank you.

Dude's doing the right thing. Anyone who's been to East New York, Brownsville, and most of East and South Brooklyn knows they're decrepit areas that have been ignored in the borough's recent "renaissance". Just look at it from his standpoint: nobody gave a fuck about that street corner before the spray art went up. He has every right to protect and monetize on an asset that's been donated to his neighborhood. And the truth is, none of those people would visit it if the Banksy wasn't there.

Good point. Difference is people line up to give museum directors cash without thinking about it. I would think Banksy would want us to think about why we'll give the Guggenheim Foundation $45 for art that happens to land on their property but we won't give these guys $5 for stuff in their hood that people would otherwise avoid.

I've watched this a couple of times and am leaning toward this being staged. He says a few things that make a lot of sense... like "you wouldn't come here if this wasnt here?" He makes some very good points about the people who are there to see the art in an urban way.

Basic human nature. If it was some no mark artist who painted it, the locals wouldn't give a fuck if it was some no mark artist, there'd be no publicity about it. Add a name and a bit of buzz to the piece, and watch the rats (pardon the pun) assemble. Society in it's truest form. From every pathetic angle.

Kinda reminds me of when Anthony Bourdain was in Haiti and, with the best of intentions, decided to give food to some of the children lingering around his eating film crew. Only to have started a fight between the people in the crowd trying to get food once he had fed a few of them. Throw a $300,000 work of art in the ghetto, don't be surprised when a scary black man is trying to extort money from you to take a picture of it.

Museum directors and curators take care of the art, provide a physical location for the art to be exhibited, and perform restoration if needed. The point I have is that these guys have no right to prevent people from simply going up and removing the cardboard. They don't own the wall, the space, or the artwork. I would simply remove the cardboard; what are they going to do, punch me?

For the dumfux - the location is THE POINT. The video is an extension of the wall art. It's all about challenging the way WE see things & the contradictions that are juxtapositioned up against each other like an oxymoron. It's about VALUE. Commercial value & how that is perverted (dictionary definition), when perspective is altered or the environment is different. It's not complicated. Nothing Banksy does is. Just deceptively simple.

As with most of Banksy's art, we really have no idea what is going on here. To me that is the point of Banksy. It's about us, we are so used to having information spoon fed to us, we have lost the ability to decipher anything on our own. We want to quickly put a label and meaning to everything, wrap it up, put it away in a little box, and move on the the next piece of nonsense and label that too. Please keep going Banksy, you are making me think. It's a wonderful gift.

Can someone please explain me what it actually deals with ? My English is not perfect and I don't really understand what they talk about. Is that something like people wanting to hide Banksy's picture to make money with ? Like "If you want to take a picture of it give me 20$ or I'll kick your ass!" ?
