The hybrid work model is best I think, so long as it isn't mandated. I'm a principal w/16 years, former Dir. and lead, fully remote 7 years and hybrid 3 more. It completely depends on your team. Your presence would (likely be) beneficial to the company as a whole even beyond your team, but you're not every dev. I like the social aspects of the office too, but most devs, in my experience, are not. Without someone to pull them away from their screen they may as well be on slack. Honestly, that has ben my overwhelming experience. It's stereotypical, and so are devs in every org I've been a part of or interacted with. A lead's job is to get the most out of each individual team member. No different than the way you craft a message to be received knowing the contents are worthless if left unheard. If sharing the air doesn't provide value for some they'll just be annoyed by the mindlessness of it.

I disagree, if you did study economy you'd also know that true socialist and communist economies perhaps sound nice in theory but horrible in practice. Consequently, there has never been one communist/socialist country that has made it to present day. A lot of people seem to believe that the nordic countries with their taxation funding healthcare and education for a large part makes them socialist countries: they aren't. They have more socialist policies but the countries themselves still have free trade in stead of a fully planned economy where the government decides on what to produce. Can you imagine in an ever changing global world that the government makes a plan on what to produce for all sectors for a year? That'd be a disaster. Also, this sounds mean but a lot of these communist/socialist revolution larpers, outside from a few in academics, are people who still haven't achieved a lot and in terms of wages, are down at the bottom. They have more to gain but do you expect high skilled labour like doctors to stay in a country where as in neighbouring countries, they can make 5 times the amount?

I think the underlying issue is that in many of these communities, “capitalist” becomes equivalent to “bad guy” while “socialist” or “communist” is equivalent to good guy. They aren’t defending an idea, they’re defending a label and any time they can’t defend their definition of said label they adjust the meaning of the label to be whatever position they think they can defend. The problem is, destiny is starting from a foundation of “this label means specifically x, and if I agree with x I agree with this label” not “this label is used for bad guy, so I don’t like it even if I agree with the underlying idea it represents. I agree so much with Destiny on the whole fake work thing and being stuck in the past thinking we need 45+ hours of labor. I remember before I graduated high school I worked at McDonalds and in between rushes there was literally nothing to do. And I was trained to “fake work” during that time. Just make it look like I’m doing something. I remember thinking wtf this can’t be right, this has to be either just this store or McDonalds as a whole where I was actually trained and encouraged to fake work. Then after I graduated and starting working several different places, they all had that in common. Every single one them, I spent literally 75% of the day fake working. Just pretending to look busy. I fucking hated it. I still hate it. Nothing makes me feel like I’m wasting my life more than fake working. I remember specifically thinking like “There’s no way this is actually what it’s like in the real world” that we get paid to sit on our asses and clean something that’s already clean, or stock something that’s already stock, organize something that’s already organized. Count money that’s already counted. It’s so redundant. That’s exactly why I loved working from home. That exact reason.

It is the same in the software industry. Very few programmers can actually effectively program for more than 4 or 5 hours a day. But you have to stay at the office for 8 or more hours. So what you end up seeing is a lot of people wasting time getting coffee, buying stuff online, meetings, long chat conversations etc. The worst is when a deadline comes and the programmers force themselves to actually write code for more than 6 hours a day - that is when the bugs and hacks and garbage really gets into the codebase and future productivity will suffer because that makes the codebase harder to maintain.

Destiny’s take on WFH is correct. When I was working from home I was WAY more productive than I was at the office for a litany of reasons, being that I can get a little extra sleep, I can dress comfortably, I’m in a place I like to be in, I don’t have distractions from noise and coworkers, and yes, I don’t have to pretend to work when my work is done. Instead I can get up and throw some laundry in or vacuum a bit. It was beneficial for my home and work life.

I think the WFH stance depends on the living situation of the folks involved. I know a few folks that go into my office prefer to do so because they don’t like the distractions of home life getting in the way of their work or their home living situation sucks so they’re trying to escape it. Ethan sounds like a grown adult here. Someone who finally got a peek behind the curtain and understands how fragile everything is. Once you realize what is actually holding all of this wonderful society together, you develop realistic views of the world. Ideals point you in the direction you want to go, but eventually you need to pull out a compass and map because there is no meaningful journey that's going to take you in a straight line. It's the young persons lack of wisdom that misguides them into thinking they can get by with a single azimuth. Learn from everyone who's walked before you; take a few steps and shoot it again. Sometimes, to stay on track, it's best to go AROUND the mountain than over it and the easiest way to get lost is thinking you can wing it.

Here's about as commie as it gets, collectively the whole tribe does own the territory we're in, this is so one person can't monopolize an entire hunting grounds needed by a clan. That being said, if you built an improvement on the land, like a house or a farm, you now own that and are responsible for it's upkeep. Obviously no one is going to let you let a field go to hell and be a breeding ground for rats that harm the rest of the village, this is how they dealt with the tragedy of the commons, it's everyone's responsibility to keep the land healthy and you can't take more than the land can give, but if you change the land in some way YOU PERSONALLY are responsible for it. That is not commie, that's literally private property on unused communally held land.

If person A and person B have different looks, but both are attractive enough to reproduce with; then it won’t really matter if both of them are “10s” or A is a “10” and the other is a “7” or even a “5”. Back when he was doing comedy/commentary skits Ethan always had something pretty smart to say, then he fell into the comedy more and his brand was being a dumbass (shirts video and vape naysh) then he got lazy and went into podcasts where even less effort was needed He's never been dumb, it's always been a business move to act stupid

If someone had told me that Ethan was possessed by the spirit of Destiny during this debate, I might've believed them. Holy shit it was insane how aligned their perspectives were.

The people on the h3 sub saying that mixed economies aren't capitalist are probably 17 year-olds who just took their first two weeks of AP econ. It actually feels so perfectly pedantic

@@BloodGangJohnWayne but ethan did handle the heat. his co-host couldn’t. the issue is that communists will attach amoral prescriptions to your character if you push back on their ideas. this is the case in every leftist community. you may be in the kitchen but you’re cooking NOTHING

Just to be clear on the part Destiny was discussing in the beginning with regards to probability and gambling, he was discussing convergence to a limit, not an asymptote.

I've been aware of political youtubers since about late 2015 early 16 and over the last 8 years the dialogs have changed and people have switched sides or became more radical in their positions, one thing has remained consistent; Those who surround themselves with progressive ideologs consistently find themselves eaten alive by the audience they cultivated.

Ethan has developed an evolved version of Jesse Lee Peterson debate, sounding and looking unintelligent yet stumping them with the simplest questions or statements. Once they removed the word salad qualifier from their answer, they would have to stand by their ridiculous opinions. He needs a "WUH DA?!?" catch phrase to confirm what a silly goose they are, then hit them with a H3H3 flavored "Ahmahzin" for the finish and he'll be the Floyd Mayweather of political debate streamers
