I finally opened my shop 2 days ago! (had no patience to wait until May lol) And I went all out on my photos and videos. I also never realized, until I posted my first listings, that I chose a niche and keywords that already have me in the top row (below the ads) on the first page for those search terms! I was like "Wait, what?" I had to have a friend go search it to be sure it wasn't just my history lol. But, I did get into a niche with very low competition so I'm sure that's why it's ranking so high. I just pray it's successful.🤞🏼Great video once again! Keep 'em coming! They're always so inspiring.

Yay! Congrats on launching!! So when I first started, I only shared my shop with very specific friends and family that I knew would be interested in purchasing my products. I wouldn't just share it across social media unless you have a social media following that's specific to your niche. In general it's fine to share it with a few people but you definitely don't want to be just sharing it around to people who are never going to purchase from you!

Hey Shae, I am watching your videos from the start:) thx for advices & strategies...I have one question. You said that you build up your listing by making 1 template and from that one 2 more variations, did you mean you are changing fonts and look of that template or you are changing listing photos of that template with 2 different variations and template is remaining the same? thx
@whatshaesells
Жыл бұрын
Hi! I am doing both! It does depend on the item, as it’s really data driven and based on what has sold previously. If I am making something from scratch, I usually create 1 or 2 versions, with 3 different listing photo variations each (so 6 listings total)! So yes some items the template is the same but it has a different listing photo. It’s very likely that one of the variations will get sales while the other one won’t

A lot of it is being extremely strategic about your designs from the beginning (I got more into this in my design vid here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tn2vsZutnXmZnmk ) Yep that is a good product idea, the real estate marketing niche is a great niche as well. To figure out what's going to be successful, a lot of it is experimentation. you'll want to create a lot of different designs (that are competitive according to your research), and test out which designs do best!

@whatshaesells
Жыл бұрын
I think that you should go as far into the apparel niche as you can, but if the niche/sub-niche ends up being too small, you can absolutely add additional product lines that are similar. Like for instance if you're selling apparel tags, you could also sell tumbler tags, or candle labels, etc. So totally a great idea as long as you keep your store cohesive!

Hi Shae, I’m just wondering - how come your shop hasn’t been shut down? It seems like every new Etsy store is getting shut down - often for literally no reason at all. (Mine just was and I did absolutely nothing wrong.) Even if somebody is doing everything exactly to Etsy’s terms and conditions. Yours seems to be the only KZitem channel it hasn’t happened to (yet!), and the only channel with not *every* comment saying “my shop was shut down” so I’m kind of wondering… what?? Haha. Any insight? (I assume you will say “I’m making sure not to break any terms and conditions” but so is everyone else, so I’m so confused!) Thank you! Love your videos!

Hi! I actually made a YT short on it. Are you selling print on demand? As far as I’ve heard, nearly every POD shop is getting shut down when you add a print provider. I also think the first few days of a new shop is when it’s the most likely to get shut down, there are many things that could potentially trigger it- including just added too many items at first! I go over a few more reasons in that short
@TheDogAndTheBee

Its a common thing that etsy shuts down new shops, especially POD, but digital shops as well. You can write etsy and normally (if there is no other issue) they re-open your shop in a couple of days.

@@TheDogAndTheBee Thank you both but it was not a POD shop, it was a digital product shop just like Shae's. And my account did not come back, I have only ever received a bot response (it even says in the message "this is an automated response"). It seems no human being has ever looked at my account, even the appeal. This is so upsetting. Absolutely ridiculous. The shop was doing so well, 3 weeks in, and I did absolutely nothing wrong. I hope someone opens a class action lawsuit against Etsy because this is 100% fraud what they are doing to people.

Glad this was helpful! Yes I will absolutely dive into that in my SEO vid! That one will probably come in a few weeks though (I have some other progress vids I'm probably doing in the meantime). But the short version is that I make a big long list of good keywords. Based on erank stats, best sellers title/tags, and new listings that are doing well title/tags. Then when I create my variations, I refer back to this list to grab different keywords! Some products you'll have more keywords than others for sure so it'll be easier to vary! Also be sure to prioritize your top keywords first in your title and tags!

her progress is very unusual, I'm really curious on what product niche she targeted cuz it is obviously working very well. All these side tips like good seo, mockup etc etc, pales in comparison to have a good researched product (like to be a specific type of customer oriented / niched that most haven't thought of, high demand, low volume supply. All those tips help, but they are no different from most other decent etsy tip channels. It's ultimately the product that matters the most. And she obviously wouldn't give you a hint cuz of competition potential.
@whatshaesells

I don't think it's unusual when I've heard from other people who have consistently listed. I haven't heard of anyone listing 3 listings a day for 3 months that hasn't grown a shop and seen success from it. There are MANY niches that this would work in, more than I could even name. It's not a secret what niches do well for beginners, because all the data is available online. In my niche research vid I went into depth about it and how to find those niches.

@@whatshaesells @What Shae Sells ok. TLDR: ramblings of an internet nobody know it all who is bored. 1. I admit my comment some how come across a bit, well not negative but critical and dismissive? didn't mean to. Not everyone had the same experience, & what you presented could infinitely help someone. Anyway, here are few things to consider (not for you per se, for whomever reads it): unusual is a vague term so lets be more specific, if what you do exceeds 97 percentile we can count it as unusual cool? Yes obvious issue is we can't count what you do vs other ppl putting in similar work cuz no such mined and organized data available unfortunately. 1. Success bias.. I personally never heard of anyone that quit college to start a business and failed, or proportionally much less. But i hear about musk, jobs, zuckerg, Jeff B. (ok he quit job) all day. For every one successful person, there are thousands, more or less followed the same dream and failed, but you wouldn't hear it from them and they wouldn't want to talk about it. (btw for the curious the successful have to be PC with their answer so their interviews are useless. "Follow your passion", more often than not this is not the case. They can't say, oh, i'm luckier than you, which is a huge determining variable (just one source out of A LOT): blogs.scientificamerican.com/beautiful-minds/the-role-of-luck-in-life-success-is-far-greater-than-we-realized/ ), I'm smarter than you, I have this/that advantage beyond just work ethic than you. All those play a huge part, but they can't say that. (Work ethic should be baked in, it's the minimal.) 2. Self-serving bias, just a tendency to attribute our successes to ourselves, and our failures to environment/others, AND others' failures to themselves. NOT sayings you are. (you are clearly smart and works hard, which no matter how u slice it, plays a huge role) 3. persistence drastically increase probability of success. Absolutely! but it cannot guarantee even a vague chance of desired outcome. aka, you can change direction of the wind to guarantee it will help you run faster, but never end at what position in the outcome. 4. my statement is more or less guided by data, this is where I admit I lost the source, but less than 3% of etsy sellers makes a profit (actually less if I remember correctly). Again I would love to have the data of similar work ethic shops, otherwise we more likely compares apples to oranges. I imagine for those the number is drastically higher, so this is not a demotivator, just work harder than everyone else. 5. Ending on a positive note, there has never been an easier time to start something yourself, and there is almost no barrier to entry and you have practically unlimited resources (beside time) to help you, especially at the onset of A.I. Utilizing all those + a strong work ethic improve your chance of success many many magnitudes. Whether it is etsy, amazon, youtube or w/e endeavor. This is a good channel. If I'm being honest, depends on what product you make, 3 a day is too little. 10 a day for 3 month straight doable for many types of products. Persistence is key, is this case almost literally, it is baked in the algorithm. There are platforms that make upload bulk listings a breeze. there are platforms that use AI and specialized prompts just for etsy to ensure your seo is good and automatic. There are site as well as Ai that create amazing mockups. There is really no excuses. Bonus to ppl read this far: when you market, appeal/focus on emotions and outcome, aka, focus on the positive outcome of having your product, use special features to supplement this point, not the other way around. Average marketers sells on features, great marketers sells on outcome / result of having your product. Great and also evil marketers, sells the positive vision of having the product, and the negative dire consequence of not having it (features are again just supplement those, if needed at all) Think luxury brand bags or Jordan sneakers. Know your customer, yes Etsy is more feature and practicality in nature but those still held true to various degree. Put marketing weights appropriately. Lastly a special message from a nobody to the lovely Shae, be persistent not just in etsy, but youtube. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if within 2 years or shorter your income from YT far surpasses ETSY :) And don't get discouraged if your channel seemingly grows flat for many month, just keep at it for at least a year. U should have a lot more than 14 videos. You post to yt once a while, but it is actually is WAY bigger gold mine in terms of potential, and your channel niche is finance. U got 7k sub from 14 vid. Shift significantly more to youtube for a few month to a year. Thank me later :)

@@FreshArtsy Wow this is the longest comment haha. I agree that survivorship bias is a VERY real thing. However I think so often, people use this bias and the idea that someone successful is just "lucky" as a crutch for why they also can't be successful. This victim mentality and scarcity mindset will get you nowhere in life. I believe that a lot of what you are attributing to "luck" is really just a knowledge gap. You could take many of those ultra successful people you mentioned, take everything away from them and have them start again, and they likely would achieve massive success again. (There is data to support this as well) It's because they have a knowledge/understanding and willingness to execute that most people don't have (luck plays a marginal role imo). Instead, I believe that someone's success shows me proof that it's possible. Now I just need to figure out that process to success (the knowledge they have that I don't) and execute on it. The % of successful Etsy shops means absolutely nothing because of the vast difference in effort in most shops compared to mine. My shop would likely make $0 if I did what most shops do on Etsy. (List a few sub-par listings once, then never do anything about it again) That's what this channel is all about. Showing that there is a path to success that is repeatable. As far as youtube, I agree that the potential is immense. I started my channel 7 weeks ago so that's why I have a low amount of vids ;) Also, you aren't a nobody :)

Lol it's always a work in progress! I test variations of keywords for sure. Especially if you have a lot of good keywords. If you only have a few great ones, I still try different variations of them... we're really just trying to give the Etsy algorithm multiple opportunites to decide it likes the listing lol
