I''ve always hated these kind of adverts, it's good to know other people feel the same way. There's something horribly dumbed down, patronising and gross about them. I remember one, I think it was for Heinz beans, where a nurse gets in from a night shift and has beans on toast in a cosily lit kitchen. There are always lots of kettles, cups of tea, 'quirkily' decorated houses, children running to school, tired but contented looking school gate mums. The overall message is 'your life is kind of crap, but it's heart warmingly crap, because you're overworked and underpaid and let's face it, you can't really change it anyway, because that's how we designed the system. Here, buy our stuff to make us even richer at your expense, thanks.'

See whenever these commercials come on they’re is always someone staring deep in to the camera like someone who’s overcome all the hardships in life and is now content and with the beautiful poetic commentary in the background you watch it thinking this is really inspiring I wonder what the deeper meaning of this passionate commercial is about only to see the very last frame is of a fucking Tetley’s tea bag.

This has summarised something I couldn't have put into words if I tried. I have the same problem with American-style adverts, there's an uncanny feeling to them I can't actually describe, they're often very "relatable" in a synthetic way. Like the companies are trying to act as if they know you.
@gibbygoldfisch7012
2 жыл бұрын
It's like they've all been made by an AI trying to relate to how humans speak and this is the 19th iteration of the machine after small, successive improvements. By the 21st edition there'll be ads interuppting a discussion of the weather to ask if we take milk or sugar
