This absolutely is the very best instructional video on how to attempt to deal with these incredibly, poorly designed refrigerators and their useless ice makers that become iced up every 2-3 weeks. Samsung should be ashamed of themselves for continuing to market these poorly designed appliances for so long, and their engineers should all be drummed out of their respective professional societies. BUT with this excellent video, you have provided me some hope that I might be able to salvage this 500lb hunk of junk that sits in my kitchen, and I will put away my sledge hammer......... Great instruction. I completed the parts replacement 3 weeks ago and have had no build-up since. I had way more difficulty getting the auger back in place than what was shown in the video, but I finally got it to click into place. On a positive note, I've noticed that my refrigerator no longer randomly switches among water, cube or crushed ice when not in use. Implies to me that I had a defective board from the beginning.

Same here. The auger motor with the new drain wouldn't snap back in place regardless of how hard I pushed it. I tried several times and spent over an hour on it. I ended up replacing the drain with the original. All other parts fit okay. It's disappointing I had to pay $200 for parts and waste a lot of time installing them when it's Samsung's defect.

Hi Brian: Were you satisfied with the results of the repair? Did the serviceman complete the whole installation without your refrigerator being emptied and down? Is the ice maker freezing up anymore? @brianbaker359

@@jimsaake7876 Yes we have had no problems since the Technician installed all the parts in the Repair Kit. Our issue was not as serious as some have reported but seeing we were down to the last few months on the 3 year Extended Service Plan it was a no-brainer to make the claim and the Tech says he probably does one a day so the problem is extremely widespread. Hopefully with all the issues Samsung had with these ice makers they did so extensive research and developed a series of fixes that would be effective. So far after only 3 months it appears they have solved the issue, the ice maker feeds ice properly every time and has never frozen up whereby the auger cannot turn. We really do love the refrigerator although I am still not fond of the smallish crescent shaped ice cubes but it appears most ice makers need to make shallow cubes of ice. Good luck on whatever decision you make. Is there any Class Action lawsuits you can sign up for?

Took me two days (I decided to seal the ice compartment even though it passed the flashlight test), which provided a nice chance to clean out the fridge. Found some ham that was at least a year old. When I plugged the fridge back in at the end, I got like ten different flashing codes. I replaced the auger assembly, thinking this was the problem. It was not. Through trial and error, I found out it is the ice flapper. I think this order of operation should be made more obvious. Press the ice lever, the flap motor turns until the two switches show the flap open. Then the auger starts. In my case, I removed the flap assembly, put the flap in the open assembly, and the auger worked. I tested the flap switches and motors, they are fine. So what I don't have is 120vac going to the flap motor when the ice lever is pushed. Do you know how to correct this issue? Thanks.

Great video. Explained everything except my final problem. I did replace the ice maker. The problem being that the ice would refreeze in the ice bucket/container and then would not dispense. I think I found the problem. In the auger motor assembly, the "U" shaped adapter that connects to the auger in the basket is very loose. It just spins. Looks like what ever holds it is broken. Perhaps a shear pin. The motor will run and the shaft turns, but it just spins and will not turn the auger in the basket. I know I could probably replace the auger motor assembly, but is there a less expensive way to replace the "shear pin"?

Now, the ice build up occurs less often but I still need to get to the Y Clips every 6 weeks to defrost the ice build up around each clip. Once the ice is gone I get regular ice making. Do you think it can be the auger drain? Also, I checked for overall level of the fridge. Mine would start and stop, and sometimes not start at all, when supplied with 12V power. Ice was all frosty and clumping. I replaced the fan while doing the service kit and have great ice now. Fan really could have been all that I needed, but there are some design changes with the new ice maker and defrost tube and mother board so all in all I feel I'll be good now. Note did not mess with caulking the ice compartment. Could not even slip a small piece of paper between the joint and also it passed the flashlight test.

great instructional production, editing, and camera work. Your content did not cover just what the new service kit will do. Does the kit resolve the problem with this badly designed ice maker? If your refrigerator is one of the models and date ranges that requires a service kit, you should order and replace the service kit. If yours is not one of those models or it is outside of that date range, you usually have to diagnose and replace parts individually.

Do you know where we can pick up some Service Manuals (like other manufacturers have and can be purchased) for these units that have this type of information you are providing which is excellent. Do you know any? I knew it had to be from a source of air coming in that had a higher temperature coming in from a seam or the drawer seal. By the way, those engineers need a psychiatrist to put part of the sealed system in the ice-maker, it gets too cold. They could have used a duct from the evaporator to the ice maker like we always had. Those old ice makers all you needed was a wire and go from terminal to terminal, like to make it harvest, activate heater and water fill.

Parts doctor I can't thank you nowhere near enough for what you just showed me, I have been arguing left and right back and forth about this ice maker with the people from Samsung, They never came out when I first called them within 6 to 7 months they just told me what I can do to fix it, I got so tired of pushing that button sick of it the neighbor came out till 4 years after I had the damn thing, When they replace the icemaker because of the extended warranty I burned up the motor that is under the ice maker and I paid $300 for it but the rest of the ice maker is intact, I had Samsung come out here one more time to check the ice machine because it was doing the same thing again they came out and did absolutely nothing they called their boss and the boss told him not to fix anything they said it was a void warranty interior damage I told them I paid for that motor I had damage with the hair dryer and now I have to see if the man put in y clips and the plastic rectangular bracket.

Thanks for the video. Kit ordered. This is our second Korean-made refrigerator. The first lasted 12 years, but I had to repair it every year. This one is 4 years old, the most expensive one we have every bought and my wife is ready to junk it. Its sad. When refrigerators were made in the US, they didn't cost a huge amount, they worked and lasted a lifetime. Yes they required some maintenance and they weren't eye candy, but you could count on them. We have a Kelvinator refrigerator in our basement that was made in 1948. It still runs.

@@jimsaake7876 I finally got time to install the kit. I will let you know. The only issue I ran into was reinstalling the auger motor assembly. The new heated drain tube kept snagging on the drain hole at the back. I solve the problem by carefully wedging a soft piece of styrofoam (packing peanut) between the drain tube insulation and the plastic housing under the drain tube to hold it up a bit higher. When replacing the circuit board I noticed both the old circuit board and replacement board have an unpleasant odor that I normally associate with a fried circuit board. Apparently, that is normal.

Put everything back an the error disappeared. Thanks. One question, the cube function is not working, it appears that the auger motor does not lift. Can this motor be replaced? Great video. Noticed that the top of the auger motor assembly has a thin gasket. In my case when assembled a portion of the gasket which surrounds the opening above the fan was dislodged (rolled up into a thread) forming about a 1/2" gap in the seal. Should the gasket tape be replaced and if so with what? Looks like a very thin (maybe about 1/8" thick) adhesive backed foam tape material. What problems might this cause. Would really hate to have to replace the auger motor assembly for this.

All great and well explained videos, but I have done all of that and I still get ice buildup. I removed the Ice Maker and Ice Auger Assembly for the past 5 days and observed during that time ice/frost buildup in the open cavity that sits above the Ice Auger Fan (behind the cooling coil) . I believe that the slow buildup of ice in that cavity eventually fills it completely therefore stopping the flow of air from the fan that helps keep the ice dry and the ice maker from freezing over. Is it possible that there is a leak in the water supply tube that passes above the Freezer box itself that is slowly percolating down in the previously mentioned cavity? How do you explain the ice buildup in that cavity? Your thoughts? Do you have a video about removing the casing around the cooling coil?
@DeckardTrinity
4 жыл бұрын
That is exactly my suspicion as well - I have done everything listed in this video except replacing the main board, and that seems to be where the ice buildup starts after all of these repairs / replacements are done.
@Mdmcneil
4 жыл бұрын
I notice the same thing and agree with your theory. The ice buildup in this cavity would definitely restrict airflow from the fan. The gasket surrounding my fan was also crushed and generally useless. Rather than water dripping down from above I wonder if it is just caused by condensation due to all the seal deficiencies. If water drips from this cavity into the fan it could splash everywhere. I suspect this gasket needs to be replaced as it was the only obviously damaged component I saw. I’ll keep making modifications and report back results. Good luck to all and thank you to the Parts Dr for the excellent video!

It also could be that the drain tube is clogged up not allowing the water to drain out. there’s an exterior drain tube by the compressor, 1 tube from the freezer one from ice maker

Based off of your experience, do these new ice maker repair kits for Samsung refrigerators fix the issue for good?
