Thanks for this Steve. I keep coming back to this video as I change my camera rigs with this lens. As heavy as this lens is it offers excellent reach and IQ.

@Steve Oakley Its funny, I was talking to Canon today about controlling the IRIS on a Fujinon Cabrio PL via the camera head electronically. Canon said that on PL mount lenses this was not possible. 4 pin connection of the mount was meta data only. Hilariously you showed they are incorrect! Great video!

thanks but while a Cabrio may have the zoom work, nothing else does. to get the iris to work you have to use the EVU2 extender + lens cable. same fpr sp,e pf the lens controls like Rec. quick zoom should always work since thats part of the lens.

@steve Oakley from what I see on your video is the power coming from the back of the camera. The lens data for iris would be coming from the 4 contact point on the lens. The way to test this would to be powering the lens off d-tap and see if the camera still can control the lens via the wheel on the left side of the camera.

@@kevinnorris1691 back of the camera is the EVU2. lens data is on the cable. the test is simpler, just unmount the lens but leave the 20 pin on and see what happens. Iris control is 100% on the cable. no cable, no control for sure including the body dial. The cabrio also acts very strange because its not getting enough power. having talked with canon pulling max power draw via the mount risks frying the power ciricut since its not rated for what ironically canon lenses like the 17-120 need, but the 20-120 needs far less power to be semi-functional. I get it, no one wants to spend $1500 for the lens power to make everything work and canon should of had it on the body like sony & panasonic, but they didn't :( every once in a while one goes by for sale for like $1k so possibly you might be able to get one a bit cheaper.

I'm having the same problem. My lens worked manually yesterday when I got it. Now the iris is spazzing out in manual mode and auto. I wonder if the 20 pin to d tap would fix the problem. I just want the rocker to work and the iris and focus to stay in manual mode. I guess I should finish watching this video for more answers.

Going to power only doesn't really fix anything, or at least you are loosing the iris / exposure functions from the camera body. focus motor should work with appropriate remote in a power only situation. no please complain to canon about their firmware bugs. can send you email offline who to contact.

@@thedp Got it. I ended up shutting off the iris initialization on the lens. Been working fine in manual mode. I'm still waiting to get that cable to power the zoom servo. I'll send an email, who do I contact?

@@Ex3oP initialization doesn't seem to hurt anything, I met the right person @ canon @ NAB this year but I'm not posting their info here. DM me... and I'm looking for the email right now.
