i think it's smart bringing it to the 1060, 1070 and 1080, I myself, will be buying a 1070 or vega equivalent to upgrade my 970 in q2, and in Australia, cheapest is what I go for in GPU's since you pay a premium for a higher factory overclock usually, but in this case, I'd be buying the icx instead just because of it's much better cooling capacity, so I like it, I think it works well.

Just what EVGA needs, more SKUs!
@user-qf6yt3id3w
7 жыл бұрын
More SKUs = good for the consumer, bad for the manufacturer. The limiting case of low SKU numbers would be Apple Macbooks where they launch a couple a year. The limiting case of high SKU numbers would be Asus who launch hundreds a year. And of course there's multiple manufacturers. So in practice there are thousands of laptops to choose from. Now if I buy a Windows laptop the greater number of SKUs mean I can get feature X without needing to buy features Y and Z if I don't need them. So when I buy a Windows machine it ends up costing less than a Mac.
@IainB
7 жыл бұрын
"More SKUs = good for the consumer?" But we're not talking significantly more complex products like laptops, we're talking about a single component- the video card. EVGA currently has 9 different products for 1070 GPUs. Four of those SKUs have all identical specs, just different coolers and the price spread is only $40. When a videocard is $400 what is the point of offering 4 different models, with the same specs, that are all $10 apart? Just because there is a choice doesn't mean those choices are worthwhile. That is just confusing to the consumer. EDIT: updated my post but am going to make a new reply.
@IAmTheRealKen
7 жыл бұрын
If a customer is getting confused that easily perhaps they should not be making purchases as if they are confused they are clearly not informed and uninformed purchases seldom end well.
@AchOwed
7 жыл бұрын
While your point is generally valid, what would be the point in making choice difficult for the consumer? If the number of variants of the cards had a clear feature/price ratio that justified the number of different SKUs, then yes, that is a good thing. However, if Iain is correct, then what EVGA is doing is alienating a number of customers. Why? Because sorting through all the different variants takes time, which is a non-renewable resource. If the price savings were on the order of $100, then perhaps it would make sense. But as it stands, if Iain is correct, it is a waste and NOT good for the consumer or the company.
@IAmTheRealKen
7 жыл бұрын
If a consumer is capable of making an informed decision, generally more choice is better and they would be perfectly capable of choosing what product is best for them. I don't see that as any different here, and I still think more choice is better because if someone doesn't want the idea of a fuse potentially being bad and requiring them an RMA, or doesn't want the newer features that ICX offers then they can still purchase ACX. I don't see how they any customers are being alienated, if anything the opposite is true here. I do not see how it is a waste.

Over the years I feel like EVGA motherboards and GPU have needed a second go at existing products. Just previously they had to do more or less the same for the FTW+ to fix issues with the FTW on 970 and 980 cards. Had a Z77 FTW and even that had issues that couldn't be resolved with BIOS updates. So sadly I've been trained to wait for them to release updated versions of anything they make.

Good morning! Just a note about the burning of the mother board. For decades UL requires flame retardant materials used in the making of the PCB, without components. In the resin a form of bromine is used that when a "flame" is present it out gases putting out any flame. These base materials are called FR4. There are different ratings of how far and how long the flame can exist. The ratings are 94VO, 94 V1, 94V2. In the old days, pre-1960 there were non-flame retardant base materials, but no longer. So the term burn up your computer would be wrong, but rendering the motherboard useless would be correct!

Just don't use iCX cooled cards, if you're up to a large case then buy an 3 fan cooled card like the asus rog strix series. Do not borther your time searching for an 2 fan cooled card when you can get an 3 fan cooled card (if you own an mid-tower or larger) and get slightly lower temperatures at a lower noise. I know some people may disagree but that's my own opinion if you aiming for an cool running system @ overclock. For normal usage i would recommend the strix series anyway. They're running cool and quiet, ofc their normal models are factory overclocked and can be overclocked further, what i find amazing.

This all looks super nice and that's why I bought EVGA 1050TI aith ACX3.0 for my HTPC BUT semi passive mode is not working. Why? Well support said it's because of the high temps on the card so they changed it in bios so that it can't go bellow 35% for fan rpm. On the gpu's page they still advertise it as 0db cooler... Beside that those profiles are bugged as hell as the precision X is, I'm using newest verified drivers and latest bios for gpu that is recomended by EVGA. So I'm not really sure about this new cooler. On the other side my main GPU from Asus is working as advertised with bloody semi passive mode without any problems... EVGA never again... Tbh card is quiet, cool too but why do they need to lie and if you build a HTPC with passive PSU, 2xultra silent fans on 600rpm that's a bit of a problem and all because of their false advertising.

Man...SOOOO many GTX 1080's out... which one to get? I don't want to spend more than about $600. What is the best one for the money?
