I've always figured for independent artists exclusives should be in the realm of $300-1000. If the artist has a bit of a buzz and I see they actually move units and earn money off music, it's closer to the higher end of that range because I know they can afford it.

Very informative. It’s like this: Pharrell Williams can charge 100k for a beat because he is proof of concept. For THORell Williams, nobody has ever heard of him so he has to be fair and make a price that is beneficial to both himself and the artist.
@DJPain1

Anybody can charge 100k for anything; doesn’t mean they’ll buy it. An unsigned artist who makes $1000 a week can’t afford 100k for a beat. A lot of producers overvalue themselves and have some odd perception of rappers as having endless financial resources.

Great "solo" video. Being that it is all subjective, I like that you challenge producers to put some thought and math into the pricing of their products. Standing firm on $10K could work but it will more than likely make a producer a self sabotaged martyr. Happy birthday. Continued successes and blessings to you in your new year and on your journey. I remember being approached for my first beat. I didnt actually sell music at the time. He asked how much for a song i posted up on a free website that is no longer around called macjams. I had no clue, being from canada and him from the usa i replied with $250usd exclusive. I didnt expect a reply back but he immediately agreed and it came out to about $400CAD. I was so happy and thankful that he accepted with no blow back at all. He wasnt a rapper though, he was a singer with 2 female artists from hawaii. I think they had a budget to work with. He also sent me 2 free copies of the cd that the song went onto. My parents framed it and made a plaque out of it with a copy of the cheque. Was a cool experience. This was like 15 yrs ago and not sure how the market works but I still feel if someone likes your music dont undersell yourself. If I could sell music at 250+ so can you! I could never make it a profession though. Its a great side hobby/passion/gig.

Pricing imo on the producers end should be based off of skill, time, and demand. if you know how to make beats that keep getting positive feedback and you see a large following and you know its hot then you have got the skill. time, it takes time to make a beat and some people are skilled and could make a beat in a very short amount of time but if you are taking an hour or 3 hours and the product is good then time should also be included as well as the time it took for some producers to be able to create good work in short amount of time. demand, if you have 10-20 people hitting you up daily then you have got demand for your product and you should raise your prices to weed out the ones who can't afford it or arn't as serious. how exclusive your beats are should also depend imo on how much of it is samples vs from scratch. meaning did you have to use third party plugins to make it? and honestly right now i'm happy we havn't gotten to the point where the plugins and daw companies themselves havn't been asking for partial points for us using their technology to even create the music... which i think is coming soon.

200-500 for exclusive. I say that bc when youre on a budget its kind of hard to when life is in the way to pay for a beat thats substantially more than what u pay in groceries...but at this point when u start buying you might want to LLC your name and look for business funding. When u become more established as an artist i feel about 1000 and up is substantial to buy out and exclusive bc the quality youve received from your producers, the facy they let you pay a reasonably amount of money over time you should be ok to give that up and budget how youre going to spend on marketing etc for yourself. But this is all subjective which i love bc u hear a whole bunch of perspectives

Happy belated birthday 🎉 hope it was good. I really liked this video a lot. It made think about a few things. Far as beats prices for me I don’t have a “set price”, I judge off the artist quality of music, how consistent they are with the tunes and their content. I’m not doing anything lower than $650 for an exclusive and that’s if the artist is dope. In releasing instrumentals on the platforms I’ve built up a decent brand and have my own fans over 1K followers on Spotify and am doing fairly well on Apple Music. So when artists do reach out to me about beats they usually understand that I’m bringing more than just a beat and they respect the prices.

The reference is really important to price your beat. Maybe the kid who is selling those beats for €30 got rich parents and doesnt have the experience with the real record label. I do i must say in the past. Even rappers or people in genaral doesnt have experience and makeup prices without any reference and misuse the music industrie. €30 with exclusive rights is way too cheap for a beat. Equipment for making a beat is tagged also with a price and that could be a reference too for pricing.

It’s the right of any business to refuse service. It’s the responsibility of the buyer to ask these questions before making a purchase. For me, a lot of artists lowball and ask for exclusive rights for $100 or so. I say ‘no’ and I have every right. Or they offer me $400 for a beat that has, over the last two years, generated $10,000 and I also say ‘no.’ I will offer to make a new custom beat for them or give them a discount on the unlimited commercial rights. They have a right to say ‘no’ back to me. Nobody should have a problem with that.

Production should be paid based on the budget of the project. Those who know how to do an artist budget will only pay what they can afford. Independent or major its all about the relationship, the budget, and the end goal which is sales of said product. When i was an artist i did a production deal ( I do not pay for beats ). As a producer i will just give you the beat as long as the paper work is in order. Either an artist sells music or they do not. I rather make money off of proven sales of product, then sell a beat to someone who does nothing with the art. Let it be known that i can do what ever i want with what i own. i just started my beat stores my exclusives are 1500, if your going to take my real estate i need to be compensated, my unlimiteds are 100, if i get 15 sales on one beat that 1500, come on its basic maths.

Wasn't the female artist he was talking about skeptical about the purchase because of the very low price for the exclusive lease the whole conversation is about what to charge

Why not look at how much money your best selling beat lease has made over its lifetime and use that as the gauge of what your personal exclusive price should be? At least then your price is based off of potential lost revenue.

Because if I did that, I’d be charging 50k for exclusives, and realistically, out of my 2000 beats in my catalog, only about 10 percent have sold beyond 5k each, with the highest probably generating close to 50k in leases. I’m not selling those exclusively, but that doesn’t mean the ones I’m selling exclusively should be 5k to 50k as that’s unaffordable for most humans

@@DJPain1 Indeed I think 2k to 4k for exclusive for cheapest price is fair with all the plaques and artists you worked with in a decade, basically 2k more than Stoupe

Fun fact: dinosaurs 🦖 are man made! They never existed!! Only two guys discovered them all-nobody else, they had a race to see who could discover the most first… 😂

if a beat is leased even once prior to being sold as exclusive then its not exclusive.
