Good video of a very old trick. If you are using two wrenches you can tighten them strongly against each other by holding them as if they were scissors.

Three things: Before you begin, you should perhaps use a thread-restoring die instead of a regular die to minimize cross-threading, which could make the process more difficult. Not critical; it just eliminates one source of error in this process. I didn't see you add lubricant (tap oil, etc.) to the stud before starting to run the tap; that will minimize wear on the tap. It will also capture any metal slivers that come off; a light grease does an even better job of this. The final issue is that you actually want to run those nuts down as much as possible. The lower they are on the stud, the less chance you have of snapping the stud off while trying to remove it. If the stud(s) won't budge, heat the head with a propane torch, then melt some paraffin wax where the stud enters the head. The wax should work its way down into the head, lubricating the threads, making removal much easier. That same trick is also useful when trying to remove old, rusty lug nuts.

I had to put a bar on my 13mm to get it to bite hard enough to move my studs on my turbo flange. Apply heat and CRC, and with a bit of patience, without too much muscle, they came out clean.

BluDog35--Looks like you forgot to put a few drops of oil on the stud and the die before you started. A little erl before you start insures it turns more easily and protects the die from wearing out prematurely.

I remove them with a vise grip. Although the jam nut method is needed for new installation.

Cool. Just a question because I don't do this stuff often. Would I still need the tap if I can get the nuts down onto the stud with the wrench?

widtrak77 you shouldn't need the tap. I was just chasing the threads so the nut would thread onto the stud.

Is there any way to get the two nuts jammed together a bit tighter? Try putting a washer in between them and holding the bottom one with a wrench. Then go at the top one with a socket or cordless impact. Honk it down real good and then you should be able to spin off the stud by the bottom nut.

BluDog35 cool-thanks. I suspected this was probably what I needed to do. Don't have an impact but I imagine I could get it pretty tight with a deep well socket and my long ratchet on the top nut. Let you know what happens. Thanks for making these useful videos!

They are an option. But after you use vise grips, you can't re use the stud.

If you have to Recut Threads on the Stud, I would consider getting a new one.
