I decided to pick up KSP again to get myself hyped for KSP 2 and finally got a working orbital station and lab working for the first time. Few things in this game are as satisfying as knowing I now have a station and reusable lander and keeping it all running.

Mike, these videos are awesome. I just picked up Kerbal for the first time w/ the recent freebie deal that Epic offered. Your videos have been CRUCIAL to me. The way you break everything down is so concise and enjoyable to watch. You're currently teaching me how to utilize maneuver nodes so I can attempt my first Mun orbit. Thank you for everything you do!

Nice one Mike. Sad I missed the premier, but RL decided it was time for a case of Toobus Interuptus. I always pick up some really useful nuggets that I never knew when I watch your beginner series!

Awesome video as always Mike! Nearing 500 hrs played and still learn from your videos. :) One thing to keep in mind when dealing with high ec usage structures with large storage is the recharge rate and daytime seconds, I tend to add an additional 35 to 40% ec cost so my solar generates enough to recharge what I used up through the night cycle. I learned that the hard way the first time I stacked multiple labs on a mun station lol

Good tip. These panels easily accomplish that, but I should have mentioned it.

Oh my god, I've just been leaving the labs there with the "research" button on but zero science, so you're telling me all this time i could've unlocked every node i ever dreamed of? Also, one thing I did know about was that the labs get an extra 10% bonus if they're on the surface (except for Kerbin), so don't count on science labs as an argument for space stations. Instead, I think space stations are better for keeping fuel and parts for engineers, as well as being a parking lot for very specialized landers. If one plans on staying for a while on a planet, it is advisable to build a station above it and use that to access the moons *and* to easily complete that mission to trasmit data from 's orbit.

You're not wrong about the bonus but with the flood of science they provide versus parking one on each and every celestial body it's way overkill. Unless you're doing a 'see how much science I can rack up!' Type challenge.

I'm fairly new to watching your videos, but I've subscribed because you're immensely detailed and helpful without making me feel dumb lol. That being said do you have a current mod list of what you use? There's some mods I don't know what you're using but others I already have. One in particular is those near little sphere pods I've seen in a few videos.

If you are on PC, get ckan. It's a mod manager for KSP. Best thing since sliced bread. I think Mike even put out a video about using mods in KSP. For his beginner series he doesn't use mods, not even the DLCs. For a full list of the mods he uses on a regular basis, read the descriptions in any of his KSP w/ Kerbalism videos. It's a fairly extensive list.

It's important to understand, that you collect a percentage of the data per day and per scientist (0.54%) and his/her level (0.135%). The more, the lab runs out of data, the less science you earn. You should probably transfer countinously experiments into data to stay at a maximum data level.

I'm pretty sure the console version is behind on updates. Also you can't mod KSP on PS4, and he's playing with quite a few mods, and that those panels are from a mod. I have the same ones in my game and it's from one of the mods I use. I don't foresee console KSP getting any updates since KSP 2 early access starts in February.
@icaleinns6233

@@benb6417 Mike doesn't use ANY mods on this series, that's only on his Kerbalism series. This one is stock KSP without even the DLCs. My guess is the tech tree component for those panels hasn't been unlocked yet, or the PS4 version hasn't been updated in a long time.
@MikeAben

@NiceWhenEarned RudeMostlyElse I didn't know about the console version, since they haven't done anything with it since 2019. I admit I was mistaken about that and the solar panels. I have a mod that adds almost identical ones and mistook them for those. But is it your prerogative to be a condescending jackass to someone, over a mistake?

My feelings on it are a little mixed, but I tried to keep that out of the video. Personally, I wouldn't use it in Kerbin's SOI (at least in a stock game), but it's awesome for a crewed interplanetary venture.

Yes! Look forward to Mike's video on this. However in the mean time there is two different approaches I've tried and had some success with. The first is a surface base which its sole job is to mine ore off the Mun (Or any planet with Ore) and then processes the Ore into fuel. I then ship that fuel periodically to an orbital station. The other much more intensive method is to directly ship the ore to the orbital station and process the it there into fuel. The caveat is that you spend a lot of energy to move the ore. But the upside is depending on the orbit of your station you'll likely have far more solar energy available to you on a regular basis. Mun nights are long XD
