What a lovely collection! And you have made some very smart purchases among them. By the way, you talk about not needing your pens to be immaculate, and appreciating the history of a well-loved pen. I agree, and not just because any pen which comes to me immaculate would soon be marked in some way or other. My pens are for writing, and I don't want to be too scared to use a pristine piece, so any story the pen might show is of value to me.
@ThePenCollectorBogdan

Yes. It is true. A fountain pen is a writing instrument with a utility but I must admit to you that if I find a vintage piece in NOS condition with a imaculate box and papers I will leave it as it is. It will never be inked. It is like a museum piece that needs to be preserved for future generations. But because I like to share with my KZitem subscribers all my vintage and new pens I will do the writing sample without filling the pen but just dip it in ink.

Hello Pen collector(s), I know absolutely nothing about fountain pens, but I own a pen that belonged to my grandfather. It's got a 14K nib and is marked DOC Degussa. Can you possibly provide any information or advice about it? I am curious, it seems well used but in really good condition. When you take the cap off its clear inside, you can see through it. Thank You!
@ThePenCollectorBogdan

Degussa was a German nib producer so probably your fountain pen was made in Germany. The clear part is the ink window (you can check the level of the ink). It is a lovely heirloom. Tresure it. You can see one of my videous with a German pen with an ink window made in Germany and fitted with a beautiful Degussa nib: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1nl3v6t-nqGeZ34

Yup, it's not that one on the cheap side of fountain pen buyings ;)

exelent video! I have been watching your videos quietly for a couple of weeks now and I really enjoy your content! I like the fact you also review less common pens. I really do agree with your statement of most expensive but not the most beautifull. my personal "best" find was a Pelikan 101N PIF tortoise with red ebonite cap, short cap top version from 1949 - 1951. I found it at a thrift store and it only set me back €35!! the pen has sold for €1200 in mint condition which mine is not all too far off from. but although it's premium price point, I do not enjoy the pen.. why you may ask? well it's perfect, I have nothing to complain about, it writes smoothly with a little bit of flex, everything works perfectly. well what's wrong then? well I find it to be boring.. there is nothing much that interests me about the pen apart from it being expensive. it's also not all too practical for me personally, I feel scared taking the thing with me anywhere. what if I lose it? what if it gets stolen? that would be devistating anyways, I am currently still a proud owner of the pen, but I do not expect it to be in my collection for ever. you can see mine here (the pictures don't do it justice): www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/k7gpeq/hey_there_rfountainpens_today_i_picked_up_this/ here you can see it in a sales catalog: gopens.com/catalog-51-june-2009/ scroll down untill you see pen 37 appear, it should be pictured on the right what I find to be my best find is a Monte Rosa Safety Fountain Pen. I found it in the same thrift store as the pelikan and it cost me only €5!!!! super proud to have it in my collection. the thing is absolutely tiny being only 95 mm capped and 85 mm uncapped, the cap is 43 mm. it's my smallest pen in my collection. I love small pens for some reason, they are not the most practical and they don't fit my hands that well, but I guess I just think they're cute :) I have not been able to find ANY information about the pen, not even another picture so it must be extremely rare! the only things I know about it is that it's made from black ebonite, made by Monte Rosa so it's technicaly a montblanc, it has an absolutely tiny 14 kt flex nib (not even a semi flex, full on flexible!) I also posted it to reddit, but I did not get any replies of people saying they have the pen as well. here you can see it: preview.redd.it/qez6y43skb861.jpg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c90de924334ad9ffd0d6b40582a015bcee479912 and i.redd.it/w04ycvnack361.jpg as you can also see, the cap is sadly very damaged due to being posted too hard. I am looking at getting this repaired I hope to see more from you in the future! cheers, The Pen Collector :)

Wow! Congratulations on your two beautiful fountain pens! Just talk to the owner of that lucky thrift store and tell him you want to buy in the future all the vintage fountain pens that he is selling. You will build with him a special client relation and you will be the first to see his new acquisitions and maybe you will get discounts. The colour of the Pelikan is amazing and I like the fact it holds on the barrel the name of the original owner of the pen. The "Mini" Monte Rosa is a rare bird. When I did the review of my Monte Rosa 042G from the early 1950s I did a research on the models and variations available for the Monte Rosa. If I remember correctly I could not find any information about a small size piece like your piece. The fact that it is a lever filler and not a piston filler like other Monte Rosa makes me think it was built in the 1920s or in the 1930s. It is a beautiful elegant small fountain pen and I think it is worth a nice sum of money because it is rare. Not always a rare piece is expensive but if it comes with a nice story the price always will go up. Thank you for the photos! In the future if you have questions or you want to send me photos you can use Facebook. I have a group named "The Pen Collector". You are welcome to join. Thank you again for your support and for watching my videos! I hope you like them all! You have a wonderful nice collection! Keep it up! It is a nice hobby but it could be very expensive ( unless you have a lucky thrift store nearby 😉 )

Thank you! That is a very good suggestion about building up a relationship with the thriftstore! Unfortunately though, the store is nowhere near close to me, it is an hour away. I am always on the hunt with close by thrift stores but that's not posible these days due to the lockdown.. I am super eager to get to know more about the monta rosa! Thanks for giving me a rough estimation of it's age. Someone reccommended me to get in contact with tom westereich from penboard.de. he specialises in montblanc, or so I've been told, maybe he knows something about it I would love to join your facebook group, except for that I don't plan on using facebook for some time, I have limited my social media usage to reddit only. But thank you for the offer

Errm, not to complain, but quite sure for ex. the celluloid M146 is much much cheaper. The 149 celluloid is around 1700 USD, as well as the striped M146 made in Denmark.
@ThePenCollectorBogdan
3 жыл бұрын
Maybe you are right. I never pay more than 300 € for a fountain pen. The 146 celluloid with a "ski-slope" type feed is a rare Montblanc. The fact that my model is made for the export market is another plus. I payed for it less than 100 € and it was my second buy after my Pelikan Souverän Green Striped M800 from 1987 that I bought at the same low price of 100 €. Thank you for watching my channel!
