It’s 2020 and I just found this video. Thank you for doing this. I have been searching for gel/non-gel info for the longest. Now I see that I don’t necessarily have to insulate my soap. I’m new to this whole thing of soap making. This is really helpful!!!!

Aside from the colours being brighter, the other advantage to gelling your soap is that it cures faster as the heat of the gel phase helps remove a lot of the moisture in your soap.

Angelia Bledsoe start with an easy soap. Maybe olive oil, coconut oil, & corn oil. ( You'll just have to trust me on that combo. It actually makes a great soap) These can all be purchased cheaply at your local Walmart. Definitely learn how to use the sospcalc.net soap calculater. It gives you the most information about the recipes you may want to try, out of all of the soap calculaters. Start simple and work your way up to additives. Happy soaping. 😁

Thank you. I have insulated my soap for 12 hours then transferred them to the freezer in order to get them out of the silicone mold without damage. 6 hours after they defrost at room temperature they are ready to cut. 6 hours later they feel very dry because the water evaporates more quickly from being frozen I think. I can clean them up if they need to be at this point then set them for cure. This seems to make a very hard bar. Its probably the same concept as freeze dried fruits and vegetables?

Thanks for doing this. I found it very interesting. Back in the Dark Ages, when I started soaping, I was taught that insulation and gel was part of the soaping process and soap was not finished until it went through the gel phase. Things have changed a lot regarding this and some people don't like gel for various reasons. When I think about soap going into the gel phase, I relate it somewhat to hot process soap going into the volcano phase. Cold process soap can volcano while going through the gel phase if it's in PVC pipe and insulated. Enough. Nobody asked me to write a book.

Thank you so much for the tips. In the future can you talk about those soaps that have a darker spot in the middle and even after curing time it still there. I thought it was due to the gel phase or over heating. Can you tell I am not a soaper? 😄. Thank you for sharing and love the way the soaps turned out.
@YellowCottageSoapery
7 жыл бұрын
Doris Colon Thank you Doris💘 The dark circle in the center is what is called a partial gel. This means that the soap started the gelling process but never completed it. Gelling starts from the hottest point which is the center and works outward. If it doesn't heat all the way through, that's when you see a dark circle. It's harmless and is only an aesthetics issue really. Hope this answers your question😀💘

Thank you for sharing this awesome video. Question-how do you prevent glycerin rivers in your soaps. I've made big batches and soaped at around 84 degrees with a slight water discount and then just left them to do their thing overnight. Next day I cut into them and to my dismay, I have the dreaded glycerin rivers. I know it has a lot to do with temp and TD and I've done different things to prevent it but must still be doing something wrong. Yours always turn out so beautiful. Any tips? Than you again.
