This is an experiment to verify the difference between basalt rods (bars) sold by our company and commercially available rebar by bending them using a press machine.
Materials used in the experiment
Rebar: outer diameter 22mm, length 1m, weight 29.3kg
Basalt rod: outer diameter 22 mm, length 1 m, weight 0.7 kg
Basalt rods are rods made of basalt fiber made from basalt and hardened with resin into a rebar shape. Compared to rebar, basalt rods have four times the tensile strength and one-fourth the weight, making them extremely light and strong.
Furthermore, basalt rods have bending recovery characteristics and return to their original straightness after bending, making them an extremely effective material for earthquake-resistant reinforcement of buildings.
The Japanese archipelago is situated on four plate plates, making it prone to earthquakes, which is very rare in the world. It is said to account for 20% of all earthquakes that occur in the world. Seismic reinforcement with basalt rods may help minimize earthquake damage.
In the video, you can see that the reinforcing bars remain bent when bent, but Basalt rods return to their original straightness after bending.
