Cool demonstration. I'd like to learn more about the different chemical processes that create things like crystals and obsidian. I'm always collecting neat looking rocks but they're so hard to identify!

I like this explanation. I was also thinking of using sugar. So for sedimentary have layers of different colour sugar in a bucket of water. Let it settle to the bottom. Then let it evaporate. Also for igneous with making candy you could show how candy that cools quickly, like maybe put in freezer, vs candy that cools slowly, in an oven on low temperature could show differences between cooling lava on surface, which cools quickly, and magma below surface cooling slowly. Might be able to show differences in qualities between the two.

That was an awesome way of demonstrating this. This is my favorite video so far. Are there unknowable rocks, rocks whose compositional history is too complex to understand? Is there any controversy over the inorganic part of the definition of a mineral?

Came here from the Icelandic volcano vid, you might consider teaching at some point (if you learn to talk a bit slower...). Also chuckled when the larger hand came in to have a piece of that metamorphic chocrock. Well done.

When I was in high school, we had to do this with starbursts. I think chocolate would have worked better😂

I never got to do this in school! that's why I wanted to try it here hahah, I did see the starburst idea, or even skittles, but I definitely feel like chocolate went really well for this

After seeing this, I wonder if you could profit as a confectioner. The chocolate mixtures sure look good.
