Tua plays with all backups as his starters to begin with and then now playing with the backups to the backups. This is not me saying Tua is better than Patty, obviously not, I’m saying play styles are important and Tua is the system for the Miami Dolphins.

Great breakdown of how this offense is schemed around incredible accuracy and anticipation! I feel like those qualities have been massively underrated in Tua's first 2 years in McDaniel's scheme and it's nice to see his absence really brings attention to it at least. With that said, McDaniel really has to adapt this offense. The fact he couldn't do so for Huntley even to a small degree is extremely disconcerting. And to Charlie's point, the GM really has screwed this build up fundementally. Not just with the lack of a good backup QB.; for the last 2 seasons he has LITERALLY (look at the press conferences) laughed at media/fans for their concerns over offensive line quality and depth. This roster construction has revolved completely around being able to mitigfate pass rush, and that in part has handcuffed McDaniel in how he could run this offense too.

I'm surprised these "experts" don't acknowledge the real reason. Its the OFFENSIVE LINE. It was already shaky last year and Chris Grier let the best 2 players leave, they are absolutely horrible now. Grier cannot build a complete roster to save his life and it's the reason the Dolphins have been mediocre for 20 years! He is the Epitome of LOSING. First off do your homework.. the last 5 games tua has played the offense has avg 13.6 points a game.. They are 1-4 Tua has 7td's 9 turnovers (8int 1 fumble) So even with tua this offense has run its course.. its a timing offense all defenses has to do is play 2 deep safeties and bump at the line of scrimmage to get them out of time... McDaniel hasn't figured out what to do if that happens.. And tua has to hold the ball and get sacked or take off a run.. If they take out the timing crossing routes the only other choice is out routes and tuas arm is not strong enough for those routes.. And don't forget huntley only had a week and 1/2 of practice, not saying he would do any better with time.. time to blow it up

Criticizing McDaniel for getting to same general concepts from different looks is absurd. Shanahan and McVay have been doing exactly that for over half a decade now. McVay even has a term for it, "the illusion of complexity." Also It's true the Jags game was an ugly affair, and not a great game by either team. However, It's worth noting that Tua did lead league in passing yards week 1 with 300 and change. So to say they weren't moving the ball is completely ridiculous. They did struggle to convert those yards to points. That huge play to Waddle for instance resulted in no points. Some of that was bad luck, a missed FG for instance. Some of it was poor decision making and mistakes. Criticizing McDaniel and the offense for being bad when behind the sticks or in short yardage situations (even with Tua), or criticizing McDaniel and Grier for not being able to field a moderately competent product without Tua is however completely fair. Green Bay and the Vikings both have good olines and run games that don't rely on light boxes forced by the threat of the passing game. Ultimately this offense was all in on Tua. A back up can look good behind a solid oline that gives him time and can control the LOS in the run game. McDaniel and Grier decided that Tua can make the offense function without those things so put all their resources into maximizing the explosiveness that Tua can facilitate without them. It all falls apart without someone like him though. There are other QBs that could make this system work, but they're all making 50+ million a year and not available.
