In the last of a series of 9 videos from Egypt I explore Luxor, the former Thebes that during a long epoch served as Egypt’s capital in ancient times.
Luxor is a treasure trove of ancient Egyptian antiquities, including two marvelous sites on the east side of the Nile River that slices through the city-Karnak and Luxor temples. The latter sits squarely near the heart of the city’s center. And that’s not to mention the vast tombs on the river’s west side collectively known as the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.
I arrived here by train from Aswan to the south, gliding past orchards and fields of plenty in the fertile farmlands and citrus groves lining the banks of the Nile. After a marvelous sweep through Egypt from Alexandria in the north to Abu Simbel next to the southern border with Sudan, it’s where I depart for my next adventure elsewhere
