I watch Blake's ranch n saw this video when he posted it n my jaw dropped when he showed Avatar. Its amazing!!! The way I see it, he didn't specially bread for it it was the only one out of the clutch that came out like that. N he has been breeding sulcatas for a few years n never seen this before. He or she is a gift from God. N I hope it lives a long safe n happy life.

Love Blake’s ranch. I think only time will tell. I think the waiting 3 months before revealing it was a smart move which shows he has the tortoises best interest in mind. Video was very interesting. The zoo is doing great so proud of your family, crew and you

I pretty much agree with the "as long as it's happy and healthy" mindset. my only concern is that a scaleless tortoise(especially something like a sulcatta) seems like a quite different thing than a scaleless snake. I dunno, it just seems like the scales on a sulcatta are more "important" if that makes sense, almost structural even in a way if that makes sense. plus, the thing about it not being able to go back in its shell concerns me a bit. it's almost like having a snake than can never go in a hide box. though I'm certainly no expert, so who knows.
@DemonicSpoon
5 жыл бұрын
Ahh! Structural is a good way to put it! I'm also concerned about it not being able to go back in its shell. Just makes me feel bad for the little one. I agree with you on all points.
@ravent3016

@@DemonicSpoon Plus, it would be more vulnerable against other tortoises and could just get injured being stepped on by a regular one.
@aina3387
5 жыл бұрын
My problem with it is that Sulcatas require a lot of space, and really need to be kept outside once they get a certain size, and this one would be a lot more vulnerable to predators.
@DemonicSpoon
5 жыл бұрын
@@aina3387 That's a good point, I don't know a whole lot about keeping tortoises as pets. Other than predators, could the environment also be a danger as well? Like too hot, slipping on a pebble, etc? (please excuse my lack of information)
@lsuhillary

DemonicSpoon I was wondering about that too. Will it be able to regulate its body temperature correctly? It just feels a little mean to me, again I say this with no real knowledge. Only reptile I have is a red-ear slider turtle that eats hot dogs!!

I have to agree with Brian on mutations. As long as the reptile isn't going back into the wild, it really shouldn't matter. Also as long as the reptile is healthy, happy, and isn't negatively affected, the mutation shouldn't be discouraged. It brings new possibilities to combinations, colors, patterns, and gives a chance for collections to grow. Most of these animals have been bred captive, so technically they can be pared with dogs on the genetic mutation scale. Some breed of dogs would just not work in the wild. I personally think the Scaless Ball Python was a huge success for Brian, and a good example. He took a step into a new frontier for ball python enthusiasts. Not too unlike how humans developed hairless cats, and some people think these are ugly, but others own them anyway. Just my two cents :) I understand if others don't agree, and I respect their points of views.
