Released alongside Mig-29 Fulcrum in 1998, F-16 Multirole Fighter was another Novalogic's semi-realistic flight sim, this time of iconic Viper. It featured several quick and training missions as well as campaigns set in Serbia, Liberia/Sierra Leone, Burma, and Somalia/Ethiopia. Along with MIG-29 and F-22 it was playable in Integrated Battle Space with 127 other virtual pilots in multiplayer mode.
Game was developed with the help of John A. Fergione, who was Chief F-16 Test Pilot from Lockheed Martin. It introduced similar flight model features as in MIG-29, namely unbalanced loads, engine flameouts and flat spins. Regarding avionics, while MIG-29 got IRST system, F-16 was equipped with LANTIRN system, which consisted of the two pods: AN/AAQ-13 Navigation pod and the AN/AAQ-14 Targeting pod. The implementation was pretty basic - one pod enabled you to display FLIR image on wide angled HUD (which implies we're flying F-16C Block 40/42) while the second one was used for targeting - you could slave it to radar, or slew it manually to track and lase targets for your laser guided bombs or Mavericks.
