I have to say, I am no means a prude but if you watch the episodes of the Gould family, I think it is downright creepy how Richard goes after Carrie. The constant fawning, the non stop kissing, the letter.... It was sort of embarassing to watch

she wasn’t complaining she got thousands of dollars, some kisses and a good fun night with the kissing bandit at the hotel even her sister was jealous hahaha she even admitted she thought of him after the show the previous night

They were both single. The FF was where RD lived, so he had no other way of meeting women. He was just being a flirt, as he liked her, and wanted to date her. I found it sweet and cute. She certainly was not complaining. I think he was looking hard for a wife by the early 80's. He finally succeeded in 1983, with finding his wife...on the show, of course!

@@hxxdiec428 Yeah, before people gripe about RD, they should do their research. All the women he kissed on the show gave their permission. Also, when the sponsors tried to stop it, RD asked the audience/viewers to vote yes kiss or no kiss, and the overwhelming response was YES! The times were just different back then. Imo, much better.

@@funshine817 There's a confirmation bias when a crowd pays to see the host. I remember on his birthday at the end of the show - all the women in the crowd ran to kiss him. The average person wasn't in the audience. I wouldn't say it was a different time, if social media was around the most negative voices would made a bigger effect in that voting. When RD would kiss - the women were typically nervously smile/laugh immediately afterward so it wasn't a societal norm assuredly. He just was the right person to break the societal norm at the right time (pre-social media). I agree with you though. By the way, the women were always preset to a herpes test before participating - so it was ALWAYS mutual consent.

Since chivalry was n0t yet dead in the 80s (MUCH more common compared to today), I woulda thaught 'make dinner reservations' would be on the board. Mm
