I've always had a thing for Maxene! By the way, you panned passed Brian Keith and his daughter's memorial. I remember him killing himself shortly after his daughter's own suicide. Another interesting fact is his step mother was the actress Peg Entwhistle who killed herself by jumping off the Hollywood sign. All fascinating stuff to someone stuck over here in England! A thing for Maxine? You do know Maxine was a Lesbian. Patty was prejudiced and refused to speak to her after La Verne (the peacemaker) passed away and told her that if she contacted her again she’d sue her. When Maxine died of a heart attack Patty was very distraught as she knew she’d lost her chance of reconciliation. She was never the same again.

A funny one given they both got fenced in together and stayed that way pretty happily until death did part them.

The Andrews sisters were so special and the music was so fun. I can remember as a child watching people all of a sudden get up and start dancing to their music. I think their music was the diversion from the seriousness of the war and just breathe liveliness and happiness into the times. I didn't know about the situation with Linda when I was a child, however, it seemed to be a situation that wasn't out of the realm of normal but always a big secret. I guess as long as nobody talked about it it didn't exist!? Sad times

I've heard of the whole adopting thing and it's sad so many gay couples needed to do this. I didn't know about Maxene either but am glad she had a loving partner, many people never get that. Anyway, my grandparents loved the Andrews Sister, and "their" song was Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree. They sang it to each other often. Many years ago I found a double CD set of their music and bought it for them. When they passed I got all of their music, which included the CD I bought. It's really good music and even though it's more of grandparents music, it's timeless.

If you look for the worst in people you will find it in yourself. It always amazes me when I know humans are inherently looking for to things love and acceptance. I heard somewhere that Patty and Maxene argued and fought a lot and Laverne was the peacemaker. Maybe that's why Patty did not want to be interred next to Maxene who knows.
@LawyerCalhoun1

Initially, the three sisters shared everything equally. Then Patty got married to a husband who served as her manager, and he demanded a greater share for Patty as lead singer. Then, Patty left to be a solo act, and the other two sisters tried to continue as a duet. Everyone was bitter after that, and I think that is a lot of why Patty is now by herself while the other two are together.

Hi Steve ! Maxine and Patty were estranged for many years after their sister LaVern died. They were still estranged when Maxine died. Perhaps it was Maxine's "secret" which caused the rift. Perhaps it was LaVern who held the three of them together. Who knows? I love the old songs and music from the'30's and '40's. The "Big Band" era. The Andrew Sisters were great. Hi Steve. This is great! I've always loved The Andrew Sisters. My favorite performances of theirs were in the movies with Abbott & Costello. BTW, I can't remember exactly how I know, but I did know that Maxene Andrews was gay. But I don't think it was common knowledge. As you noted, it was extremely difficult to be gay in that generation. Seems like I read about it in a book, but I can't be sure. Also, Marty Melcher wasn't a very good husband if Wikipedia is to be believed. He left Doris Day deep in debt when he died. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Melcher Thanks for another great video.

Of course way before my time but I do have an interest in the music of that era. The big band era covered a lot of ground from Glenn Miller to Count Basie. The Andrew Sisters were about about the biggest act going during the war. ...................... I did not see anything really unusual about the last sister being buried with her husband. If had been 18 years since her sister had died and most people would rather be buried with their spouse. One more thing, adoption seems radical....I'm not an lawyer but it seems that if they gave each other "power of attorney" that would work

Laverne and Maxine are actually @ rest in a part of the GM, Memorial Terrace, where the Last Supper Window and several Michelangelo marble statue reproductions are on display, so technically that area is the really the only section which is allowable to visit w/o too much restriction, save for the prohibiting of photography. Patty's name has recently been added on to the bronze nameplates attached to the family niche but strictly as a cenotaph. I may be incorrect about this, but I (thought I) read that Patty's daughter wanted her mother to be interred @ FLG but was unable to do so.
