In this video we are going to compare these two ebike controllers fardriver vs sabvoton, and see what they have in common and what different between the two
2 dead sabvotons on my shelf and a new fardriver arriving 6-18. Your videos taught me how to program the sabs and I will rely on them again with the Fardriver. Much gratitude and respect to you!

Send me that Sabvoton. I can probably fix it unless there are giant craters in the board.. Sabvoton and Fardriver are the same company. Kelly and Votol as well. That Fardriver is a battery hog and it's probably a trapezoidal I'm just guessing. I guess I could bust out the oscilloscope and see but the way the power is applied etc seems not very much like sine FOC. Total power hog. That Sabvoton is absolutely more powerful but it requires more knowledge to setup properly. Thex72150 us rated at 450 phase, 8 have 2 of those, I think the 200 they probably rate at 600 but that's not possible because there's no such thing as a 100% efficient circuit. 90-95% that's doable. I'm just happy they use battery amps because phase amps is just a bullshit way to rate controllers. The Fardriver is potted, so if you burn up some fets have fun getting that potting off to do a repair. I have that exact Fardriver too so I'm familiar with it's power vs a 72150 and they are comparable . I haven't had a 200 yet so I can't speak to that. But that Sabvoton Isa very powerful controller, also more expensive though. You can get Fardriver 680 for under $200 on AliExpress so that's a hard deal to pass up. Noisier, yes,. Less efficient, definitely. But that's why we make big ass batteries right? I like doing all the settings, I'm a glutton for punishment I like my VESC controllers. A bazillion settings to tweak and an actual human being you can communicate with and speaks English and is still actively upgrading things and who actually uses the controllers he designs. That Fardriver is huge compared to a VESC of similar power. I have the 75300 water cooled Flipsky and that's a very powerful controller, you can make an electric jet ski with it. And it is not very big even with the integrated water block. I wouldn't want to drop it on my foot but if you drop that Fardriver on your toes a little piggy will not be going to market. Heh heh. Send me that controller, I'm near you... Sarasota. I've fixed both of mine it's probably something stupid. You say it cut off suddenly just riding normal. It might just be a wire. They use the most shit wire. I don't understand $300+ for a controller and it has aluminum wire. WTF? Weird choices they make sometimes in their efforts to make each line they brand these things under seem unrelated. You killed the Sabvoton do then you showed them by buying a Fardriver. Same company. That is their business strategy. No one in China can write a proper English set of instructions? I find that highly doubtful.

@@E-bikeguy the Sabvotons were a lot better when they were using name brand Western mosfets. All Chinese now so they are definitely less durable than even 5 years ago. At least they have Bluetooth and apps now though honestly if there's a desktop software that's usually the better choice. Accept for Fardriver, their desktop version isn't even fully translated to English. Some of these controllers are absolutely not originally intended for bicycles. The companies were dealing with OEM moped, motorcycle, scooter, and frigging golf cart manufacturers so the need to explain every little setting didn't exist . Hopefully these companies start trying a bit harder to make their products more user friendly.

@@uncle.matts.ebikes depends on what voltage you’re using. I’ve heard good things about sav from their users, to be honest it’s hard to beat fardriver especially for the price. I don’t know a lot about Kelly controllers, I have a mini kls 200a and it’s good but they’re not used as often at least in the diy ebike space, I’ve seen higher voltage controllers on cars and helicopters tho It would be hard to put together a 96v system and a fardriver 96680 and beat it with a 72v S controller 150a and If you haven’t built the battery I’d look into if you’re going to benefit from 96v+

Yes but you need to set MaxLineCurr to 40a until you buy a real battery. Thats what I did when I had a 60a battery, I set my Fardriver for 60a until I had a 180a battery.

@@imho7250 thanks for the reply I have two batteries one is a 48volt and the other 52volts does that setting work with the 52volt battery as well??
@imho7250
2 ай бұрын
@@salvadorsalvador4735, technically if you are using a Fardriver you should change the battery voltage setting and LVP setting in the controller for each pack. 52v/LVP 42v 48v/LVP 39v. The reason is regen cutout voltage is based on battery voltage setting, which prevents regen past approximately 90% full charge, before the BMS overvoltage protection kicks in. The LVP is set to get most of the juice out of the battery but turn off the controller before the BMS cuts power to the controller. It really depends on the rest of your bike. If it has a geared hub motor with internal freewheeling clutch, you can regen so you could use 52v setting for both packs, and you could probably compromise at 40v LVP setting , then you could use both packs. Before you buy any controller you should know your ultimate plans for the bike so you can get the power you need for each upgrade. Ultimately your battery, motor and controller need to match to get the designed peak performance out of them. If you have room for a second battery, you can buy an additional 48v or 52v 20ah 40a pack and run the pair in parallel with 80a Maxine current. There are Fardriver controllers that are only 45a (72200) but don’t get that one if later you want a 3000w motor.
