Hi Ms Tiffany, wanted to know if these would look good using blanket yarn? I know it’s a thick yarn but I’m trying to do a unique style blanket for my niece and think she’d really appreciate this square. Or maybe 5 would work better?

For the newbies. Each row the stitch increases by four. You might find that bit of information helpful. By round 4 you should have 12 double crochets across. Round 5 you should have 16 and so on.

I love the simplicity of this square and it is a great beginner square. If you want a more seamless close of the round you join with a half double crochet (hdc) to the beginning chain or stitch. I do a stacked single crochet (sc) instead of a chain. The hdc counts as a chain 2 and allows you to always start in the corner with a chain 2 (or stacked sc) and 1 double crochet (dc) then you finish the round with 2 dc joining with a hdc. Works the same if you only chain 1 in the corners. You just join with a sc to count as your chain 1 at the end.

This video is absolutely helpful❤❤ but as a beginner here I do have few doubt :/ 1. How do you do the slip stich to close each rounds, how do you know which stich to put the hook through to close the round? 2. How do you change the last row into a new color? 3. Can I make a tote bag with these granny squares? I am sorry if my questions sounds dumb, I am a newbie and really need some help with the basics 😢

Hi there. Your questions are absolutely not dumb, they are great questions! I'm so glad you asked them because they tell me where you are coming from. Your questions such as the slip stitch, where to place your crochet hook and color changes can all be found in crochet basics. Sometimes we want to jump right into a project but we are not quite ready. And that is perfectly ok! Check out my Crochet Basic Playlist that I will link here. It will help you so much. CROCHET BASICS: kzitem.info/door/PL6HRmAfbRXTUozLviGpviKkzlbRS4VKh3 There are so many things you could make with this granny square! Including a tote bag. You could follow my granny square tote bag tutorial for some guidance and just swap out those squares for these ones. Keep learning and keep growing. You'll get this! 😊❤️🧶

As a beginner, I personally would say this is for advanced beginners cause I feel like I'll need to do some pausing & rewinding, as well as having some questions. I'm saving this for when I feel I might be ready. I've also not done anything in the round yet, so that's my biggest unknown. I'm fine with double crochet, I'm currently practicing those. Thanks!

Hi @irvingorr7351! That is a great tip. Next time I'll show how to change colors as well. You absolutely count just continue working row after row and making a blanket with this square! It would be of a square shape BUT if you at least made it as big as you wanted it width-wise, you could then attach rows on the top and bottom of the blanket to give it length and turn it into a rectangle. 🤗❤️🧶

So, if you do a magic ring, instead of the chain 4, you'd still chain 3 before starting your double crochet stitches into the ring--right? I always end up with a giant center hole that I can't really close when I do a chain instead of a magic ring.

Great question. Yes, if you chain 4, you will then slip stitch into the first chain to form that center ring. After you form the center ring THEN chain 3 to start your round 1. 😊🧶❤️

Hi Tiffany! I love this granny square. Thank you for this tutorial, I have been wanting to make an afgan with these squares.

I would recommend slowing down a LOT because I've had to run it back so much I've lost count and by the time you're finishing your fourth DC I'm still trying to find the correct placement of my first one.
