Dude, you were in my neck o' the woods there. Some of my favorite roads to tool around on the bike. You were on "Paseo Delicias" which changes to "Del Dios Highway" (SR6) in Rancho Santa Fe. As you have discovered a wonderful road to ride, traffic dependent at times of course. This pass also has some California history that goes back a ways, at least by our standards. Ride safe!

Thanks for checking in Garey. That road appears as if it's been around for a while - like most roads passing by a body of water. Hope you continue enjoying it!

If you look to the west of the lake, up the hill. You will see at some stages along the road the remnants of a late 19th century early 20th century light rail line. This was used to haul mined materials from the Rancho Santa Fe area back out towards Escondido. I can't now recall what they were taking out? But it was mined at the location of a golf course (!) in Rancho. The road itself is laid over an old stage route, using the road building technology they used back then called "terrain following", that is it stays above any flood plain and the curves in the road follow land contours close to the mountain side, a relatively stable area. Nowadays we have the power and technology to just blast a wide flat road through any obstacle. My prediction is that Del Dios will disappear within the next 10-20 or so years as it is the main route to the coast from that inland area within several miles. The only other viable routes are 79 and 56 freeways. Don't try this road at rush hour, it's ridiculous with traffic. That is why it is doomed, so enjoy it. The rich folks in Rancho can fight it for only so much longer. Whoa! Sorry for the long and convoluted reply here! No need except an old guys time to share the past with the present and some day the future.

Garey Cooper thanks for the history. I’ve already made the rush hour mistake. Unfortunately, rush hour begins at 2:30 and ends at 7 in San Diego. If I’m going to head East for a ride, I have to do it in the morning. That road is prone to becoming a highway. New construction out there. The human virus will consume every inch of land and traffic will eventually hit a breaking point.

I'm going to have to re tune mine because I initially did whilst running the bike in & only was taking it up to 3500 rpm, so be interesting to see what occurs. Do you just go back to your base map & initialise Auto tune or do you just go straight to Auto tune , not sure of the procedure. Haven't been on the bike ( & the weather is lovely) for a while cos I just had a 7hr spinal fusion op, still in pain after a month post op. Your bike sounds great Min, all the best 👍 😎

Hi Geoff. Take your time; that Fat Boy suspension won't be very forgiving on your back. Regarding the autotune: i believe the base map is already selected by default. Just select autotune and get as much variability in rpm, speeds and rate of acceleration as you can. I usually run it for a few rides. One slow city streets, one fast highway and one canyon road/back road riding.

My espanol is a bit rusty but I believe the translation for Paseo Delicias is Delightful Walk, not Delicious (haha). If you remove the traffic and buildings, I could see how that name would be very apt for that location. Thanks for sharing.

Dario C. Cruz good to hear from you. I had searched the translation prior to the video but I just felt “delicious” was much more funny ; )

Yeah, I figured you were kidding. And yes, Delicious Way would've been a better name :-)
