I absolutely love Timothy West’s readings of Anthony Trollope’s novels. How We Live Now is my favourite. Or The Barchester Chronicles. Characters reappear fleetingly in different novels which is great fun. Also very good value as they are so long! “Never mind the quality, feel the width!” 🤣

Love the hair. Dez you are a bad influence - after your earlier video I went to Selfridges and bought a blusher from Westman Atelier and a lip gloss from Huda beauty. Expensive but worth the money. I enjoyed Wicked Little Letters, not a film to be taken seriously. American Rust the second series was well worth watching do let us know if the first series is worth buying. Am I the only person who finds paying Amazon extra for some programs really annoying? I have surprised myself by enjoying watching the Decameron on Netflix. Definitely not a series to be taken seriously. This is from somebody who loves Scandinavian doom and gloom.

Uh oh - soz about that 😉- glad worth it, though! I think I'll give Wicked Little Letters a bit longer - Him Indoors is away tomorrow night so might watch it then. Hopefully we'll start on American Rust soon - the Olympics have got in the way for the last couple of weeks! Agree it is annoying to have to pay extra when we've already paid, but hey ho. And thanks for rec on the Decameron. I am also a doom and gloom merchant, although not sure I could rewatch The Killing and The Bridge again - they were terrific but also horrific 😱

I have a few Kiko Milano stick shadows. I find that they smudge the most of all the eye shadow stick brands I own. From least smudging to most smudging on me: Bobbi Brown, Victoria Beckam, Laura Mercier, Kiko Milano. Also, the Bobbi Brown have better pigmentation than the others I've tried. The worst sticks I've tried are Mally. Absolutely no color payoff.
@beautybydez
Ай бұрын
Oh interesting! Bobbi's are good, but I just have the one dark brown - I haven't yet tried the VB sticks, only the pencils. I used to have a Laura Mercier years ago but with all sticks I struggle to find shades I like. Mind, since I'm going a bit lighter with my shadows I may find it easier now 🙂Never tried Mally - dont think they are as available here as in the US.

Awww Fi, sorry to hear that - hope you’re on the mend. Hair was actually by a proper hairdresser in town, recommended by a work colleague - not expensive, actually so let me know if you’d like his deets. I will be doing my own roots, though. Give Cetuem a try, but just do a strand or two at the back, maybe, to give it a go, you can always dye over it if it doesn’t look right. Sending hugs ❤️❤️❤️

Hey Dez! The PTR was hopeless for me too. I gave it numerous goes on different parts of my face and it was completely hopeless. I definitely don't recommend it and I'm amazed it works for anyone quite frankly (unless maybe we got dud ones 😆) I agree the Elvive is a very good buy. I used it for years while I coloured my hair and always found it fabulous. It protected the colour and conditioned my hair beautifully. Now I've let my hair go grey I use Aveda Blue Malva. Loved The Jetty - different storyline, good acting. American Rust was interesting , and Jeff Daniels was very good, but the story line is disturbing to me. Would love to know what you think when you've watched it. A Man in Full, also starring Jeff Daniels, was excellent. Speaking of books, one of my favorite writers died earlier this week - Edna O'Brien - and her books were read and re-read as a young woman.

John Steinbeck is a favorite - Of Mice and Men, The Pearl, East of Eden, To A God Unknown - are great but just as depressing as The Grapes of Wrath. Most classic literature is on the depressing side tbh. Willa Cather's My Antonia is a classic which portrays a woman who ages from a young girl to her 30s. It covers immigration, lost love, class conflict, feminism. It's sad in parts but interesting and joyful. I don't mean to go on and on. Sorry!
@beautybydez

Oh you are not going on at all! And how true re classic lit. My cousin who is American and a voracious reader bought me My Antonia but I struggled with it- but now I think I'll go back to it - thank you!

Hi Dez: You look great as always. I feel like no matter what makeup I apply, it doesn't matter, since the rest of my body has gone so far south. Sigh. I wondered if you had any suggestions for my hair. It's completely white, and I've been coloring it a dark brown forever. (It also tends to pull red, which I very much dislike). I can't afford balayage, but I'd imagine your lighter shade avoids the dreaded "skunk line" a bit between colorings. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I ADORE the way you do your makeup. Thanks and hugs. Rosemarie ❤
@beautybydez
Ай бұрын
Thank you so much, Rosemarie! Re hair, what was your natural colour - was it dark ashy brown like mine? If so, worth trying a slightly lighter colour - my hairdresser said when I do my roots (which are now overdue!) I should use dark blonde -which is really an ashy brown: www.cetuem.com/collections/hair-colour/products/6-dark-blonde - this is what I use, mixed with 20% developer. If you can find that shade, that might be worth trying if it's a bit lighter than what you're using now. I think us brown haired girls struggle to find a colour that's not too warm and red - that's no good for me either. Or you could try going even lighter - I might try mixing this one www.cetuem.com/collections/hair-colour/products/6-1-dark-ash-blonde with my original. I don't go to the hairdressers to get my roots down as it's so costly, I do them at home - but like you don't want skunk roots! Hope this helps ❤️
@roseyc.5846
Ай бұрын
Thank you so much, Dez! 🩷 I feel I should soften the dark color, as the contrast against the white roots is SO stark. My natural color is auburn brown, so it's very difficult to get more of an ashy tone. I'll try your suggestions and very much appreciate them! Rosemarie

Love your videos - on the two blushes you really liked I wanted to know if they last. My fail for the month are the Merit Beauty blush, bronzer, and eye shadow - all the products almost immediately disappeared so why bother? Do any cream products really have staying power???
@beautybydez
Ай бұрын
Thanks so much Nancy! Well, yes to the blushes - both the Westman Atelier and the E.L.F. And also the Merit blush. But bronzer - hard to say as tbh by the time I've blended it in, I can't see much of it anyway 😉 The eyeshadow completely agree - I've given mine away as they didn't work for me at all. Also, I think highlighters in cream form work - as do the liquids.

I think Wicked Little Letters was something you had to see in a movie house. The story was OK but the acting was what kept me from walking out. Elsbeth is not nearly as good as The Good Wife. The character worked as comic relief but as the main character, the schtick just becomes annoying.Try to see the new Icelandic movie Touch. It is excellent - sad and romantic but not a chic flick by any means. Classics I've loved: Tess of the D'Urberveilles, The House of Mirth, Jennie Gehrhardt, almost all of Sinclair Lewis, The Great Gatsby. Hated all the Conrad I was forced to read in college. Find it difficult to get into anything by Faulkner, Hemingway, Steinbeck.
@beautybydez
Ай бұрын
Ah, ok, that makes sense. Shame about Elsbeth, a few reviews had said as much. Thanks for the recommendation re Touch - it's not here yet but a google search shows its coming end of the month. Tried Hemingway, couldn't get on with it. I forgot about Hardy - he's a bit later - I liked The Mayor of Casterbridge. We had to read Balzac for my degree 😱
