In this video you will learn the basic Level 1 moves:
Arm undulations:
Arms movement can make or brake a presentation. Strong, graceful arms are like a frame for a work of art. You are showcasing whatever is inside of them. Arms undulations take place shoulder height and higher, never dropping below the ribcage.
Taxeem:
The taxeem is the most basic slow movement. It is a lateral figure-8 traveling through the hips. It is simple a continuous weight shift from right to left-it's like a walking in place. The key is the exaggeration of the weight shift paired with a simultaneous contraction of the oblique on that same side. Easy for me to say! but how do you do it?
The simplest way to approach the Taxeem is to shift your weight from side to side as if walking in place- the only difference being that you will keep both feet flat on the floor. It's only the weight shift that we are after, not the actual step with the feet.
Another way to visualize the Taxeem is to envision pouring something from one hip to the other. Think of each hip a a bowl. Now fill one of the bowls with a thick liquid such a honey. As you shift your weight, pour the honey from the lifted hip in to the dropping hip. The smooth, slow-moving nature of the honey will also help to illustrate how deliberate and intense the movement is.
Body wave:
The Bodwave and Bellyroll are companion movements. Both are undulations, but the Bodywave uses the spine to make a large movement that starts at the shoulders and rolls down through the hips, while the Bellyroll uses only the muscle in the front of the abdomen.
Circle Step:
The Circle Step is one of the most traditional belly dance movements. Although very feminine, It is a clear display of the hips. Traveling in a horizontal circle, the hips are accompanied by an elegant, drawn-out Floreo from the left hand.
