Fedsy’s backhand is this match is maybe the most solid/potent one-hander I’ve seen. So satisfying and clean

This is basically Sinner and Alcaraz in 2024, where Sinner (Nadal) clinches the Year End No.1 but has a losing H2H record against Alcaraz (Federer). Both win two Grand Slams each.
@thesoccergod
Күн бұрын
The *only* similarity is the fact that Sinner's getting the #1 ranking. Otherwise, there *no* comparison whatsoever. Fed turned 36 y.o in 2017 while Nadal turned 31. And at the beginning of the season, Fed was trailing 11-23 in the H2H. By the end of the season, he'd beaten Nadal four straight times, thrice without dropping a set & won his 8th Wimbledon without dropping a set. Otoh, Alcaraz just about beat an under-investigation Sinner in 5 sets at RG & now barely beat him in Beijing. And not once did he win in his match in straights. If you stop buying into all the BS hype around Sincaraz (with bloated & false comparisons to the Big 3) & take a step back, you'll see that Alcaraz, at the moment, is about 30-40% of peak Fed (across surfaces) & 70-80% of peak Nadal (on clay).

We have to say also that nadal , in 2017, played all the slams and master 1000 while roger played 3 out of 4 slam and 4 out of 9 master 1000. This is why rafa ended up with the world number 1 at the end of the year

If Fed had switched to a larger frame earlier, he would’ve won Wimbledon 2008 and AO 2009. Nadal’s only real strategy ever, which he flat out admitted in his autobiography against Fed was to just pound away at the backhand until he got an error or a short ball. Take that tactic away with a strong backhand and he’s got nothing against Fed off of clay

Yes, too bad Fed was still living in the classic era while in modern times. The H2H against Nadal and even Djokovic would have been drastically different had he made the switch much earlier

This is nonsense, watch Dubai 06, AO 09 or AO 12 and you will see Federer coping more than fine on the BH but losing for lots of other reasons like Nadal’s elite passing shots and consistent defence. It diminishes Federer too to play down Nadal like that

@@jbm8167not the case. You can’t compare Nadal’s top spin with any other player in history. That and the fact that he’s left handed was pure kriptonite for Roger with the frame that he was using. Just look at their record since Roger change his racquet. I think Nadal only beat him at a very windy RG.

When Fed is on it on fast HC neither Djokovic (Shanghai 2014) nor Nadal (Shanghai 2017) could cope. Think Nadal also had a knee problem here already which caused him to skip most of Paris and the rest of the year after this

In terms of dominance ratio (DR = return points won/service points lost) the most dominant performance in the entire Fedal rivalry at 2.25 for Federer. Nadal didn't get to deuce on Fed's serve even once
