Some other differences I forgot to mention: Original is Basswood, Reissue is Alder. Pickguard shapes are slightly different, newer one aligns better with the bottom horn.

@Tremonster261

Nah he didn’t. He only used it briefly before he died and that was the very first prototype. There were several things he wanted to change, but died before he got the chance. He definitely didn’t sign it off to go into production. Fender did that of their own accord, probably with Kurt’s estate’s permission. I have a 2002 MIJ and a 2021 MIM and I’d even though it’s an unpopular opinion, I’d say the MIM is better. It has a really nice dark rosewood board and the maple neck looks to have a little flame in it at certain angles. Just all round feels like it’s made of higher quality materials. There will always be this perception though that the MIJ is somehow better.

@@Tremonster261so when choosing between the two for the same price, mij or mim?
@Tremonster261
Жыл бұрын
@@maximmm5462Tough question. I can only speak on the two I own and of them I’d pick the MIM. To be honest in terms of playability and sound there really is nothing in it, so then it comes down to the individual and if country of origin is important to you. If potential resale value is a factor then I’d say MIJ. As I said before, there’s this perception that MIM is inferior, complete nonsense of course, but that’s what the mass guitar buying population believe.

Hey nice video, I like my original but it’s probably one of my least played guitars. I haven’t got the chance to try a new one but I I imagine they have a similar feel. I wouldn’t pay MSRP for a new one though, it’s still quite pricey I think.

I bought a Jag-stang MIM maybe two years ago and then recently I sold it for a few hundred less than I bought it and instead bought a used CIJ 2003 Jag-stang for roughly the same price I sold my MIM. I like the guitar but it had been played quite a lot and probably needs a new nut. Now I don't know if I made a mistake and perhaps should have kept the MIM one. I’m sorry to say but Mexico is the new Japan imho if u got a good one that is. The only thing missing on the new jag-stang is the pickups aren’t correct. Kurt likes higher output pickups upwards from 15ohms like the JB’s while the jag-stang only has a 7ohms bridge pickup.

You dreamin mate. In france MIJ / CIJ sell for 750/850. On reverb (prices for tourists) they go for 1300/1400. And they’ll probably get even cheaper in the near future (guitar market crashing + eventually genZ kids will get tired of nirvana revival). There’s just no investment to be made in guitars right now.

No musician, who isn't a Nirvana fan, would evey buy this guitar. I've played many guitars in my life, but this one was easily the worst-sounding, most-overpriced, poorly designed, and badly set-up piece of crap I ever played. There is literally nothing positive that can be said about it. Hell, watch this very video. That guitar sounds TERRIBLE. The electronics are practically toys, the body is so awkward that it provides no comfortable way to play it, the tuners suck, the frets need a ton of work straight from the get-go, the wood is as cheap as wood can be, it's common knowledge that this is one of the worst bridges and tremolo systems available, and don't even get me started on the switches. Even the Cobain fanboys can get around that one. I'm sorry Nirvana fans, but this is an objectively bad musical instrument, that shouldn't be a penny over 200 bucks. How much can you expect from a guitar solely designed from a crude sketch from a beginner-level guitarist?

The 1996 version is made of basswood which is basically the shittiest wood for guitars. The new Jagstang is made of Alder. The Jaguar is all around the better choice though. The Jagstang needs so many mods to be decent.
