I didn't have a group when I started POTD this summer, and the groups in Party Finder were going for exp runs, not chests. So I did build up my armor solo and it can be done, but it is not fast. I had to repeat levels 1-10 repeatedly to get enough armor to go further. Once you've cleared level 50 you're set. But I agree it wouldn't be my first choice for leveling a new job :). I was there to see how it was as a solo experience. From that point of view I think it's fantastic. PoTD is hardly new and those who have cleared all 200 floors are still a small group.

I can personally attest that Grand Company squads are an excellent way to gain exp - at the very least for getting from level 20 -> 50. This was the method I often fell back on when I was done with roulettes for the day, and it also allowed me to go grinding dungeons for some loot for either glamours, or to keep my characters up to date with the power levels at the time. The only problem is that getting your GC past level 50 for running Heavensward Dungeons is an absolute pain and requires some work and planning, due to the nature of GC Squad missions (basically a way to up your GC NPC levels). Additionally, your potential exp gain from PotD is simply just that a , until you finish the 10th floor, meaning a wipe will ruin your gains, while wiping in any other dungeon will only set you back mildly, and you can recover quickly. Based on my experience with the varying methods of exp gain, assuming you have the seals to reputedly do GC Command missions, and assuming reasonably short queue times for instances, then my recommendation for leveling (past level 20) would be: Leveling Roulette -> GC Command Missions -> Other Daily Roulettes -> Random Dungeon Queues -> Clan Hunts -> Palace of the Dead

Hey im new to the game, lv52 atm, can you explain what is Grand company squad? I am in the Twin Adders, i use all my seals to get promotions.
@GambeTama
4 жыл бұрын
@@kitsukeita No biggie, friend, I'm always willing to help: Once your character gets to the Second Lieutenant rank - the 9th rank in the GC - you'll unlock adventurer squadrons. Adventurer Squadrons are basically NPC's that you can make into teams to do missions, as well as an office to coordinate them at the GC base. Every base has a door to the left of the front desk; that is where the office is. Once you've been given your office and squad, you'll then need to gather recruits. Whenever you complete and achievement (including weekly ones), there is a chance that a potential recruit will show up, and you can take them in or reject them as you please. Once you have enough members to make a team, you can now do missions. You can send an all NPC team on their own missions that they do for exp and a little loot, or YOU CAN HAVE THEM TAG ALONG WITH YOU FOR A DUNGEON. Yep, you can circumvent the mission queue by just taking an NPC team, and just having them do the work! And the game will treat it like a full dungeon run, so you get all the exp that entails, AND THE CHESTS ARE ALL YOURS. There are some important things to know: 1. Your Adventurer Squadron member have their own levels, meaning they can get stronger, but also that they have to meet the requirements to enter a dungeon (you cannot take a level 30 Squad member into the Aurum vale, for example) 2. You have to pay company seals to undertake a mission. If you are committed to doing stuff for your GC, then it shouldn't be an issue. 3. You need to have enough members to make a standard light party (Tank, Healer, 2DPS) to undertake a mission, or send members out on one, of course. If you have any more questions, you needs only ask.

@Dizzy Gear Palace of the Dead is, statistically speaking, the best means to level your character. The only problem with that is how limited the content is as well as how mind meltingly boring it can get. Do be warned, though, that any dungeon that is a level multiple of 10 will reward hideously low exp, since it's supposed to be end-of-expansion content, and the exp is practically useless by that point. You are right, though. The monetary and seal gains make it more appealing, especially to players who want more out of their content than just levels. I was not aware that the Colosseum Attire sold so well - and her I was desynthing it :P As an aside, if you pre-order Endwalker, the earring you get as part of the rewards package makes dungeon leveling more efficient than Palace anyways, so there is that. That being said, if you try to get the Dark Horse mount from the prize sacks in Palace, the amount of time it would take would more than likely level any class from 16 to 60, and selling the mount would probably make you a ridiculous amount of gil too.

And yeah, I'll try not to get too comfortable with how the deep dungeons ignore positional issues. PotD is also a great way to get a quick feel for a new job since you level up pretty quickly inside and you can learn jobs that start not on Lv1 like Samurai from Lv 1 onwards to get a better understanding of the mechanics. Beware however that you need a jobcristal for the ARR Jobs to have full access to their skills. Without a Jobcrystal you will be stuck with the skills of the Base Job only, for example you go into Floor 50 (where you start at Lv 60) as a Pugilist without a Jobcrystal you don`t have any Monk-abilitys.

Thanks for telling people to use the dungeons! I enjoy revisiting the old dungeons on my alts, and it's nice to run with real people. I like random people, and I like that running with random people in FFXIV is always a pretty good option. I really don't understand why so many guides recommend everything but the obvious dungeons for players who are leveling. We do need more people to play healer though - please guys level some healers. I am seeing players in end-game instances running away from stack markers, etc. Maybe they should have done more of the earlier group content? I love PoTD for soloing. I love that they have this in the game and that even so many years later the highest levels are still a challenge. I tested squadrons during the Moogle Tomestone event and I would say the exp is pretty fantastic for the levels it covers. But again, you won't really be playing your job if you are using it to level. You'll be pressing Engage to get the sluggish tank to pick up more than one mob at a time, hoping your healer doesn't die, and watching your Archer murder everything so fast you hardly have to dps. It was a great precursor to Trusts which are much better.

Great guide, I like it. But like to add a few things for new players. As far as I know pox also decrease your damage. At least tooltip say so. It's not that bad, but can be bad too. Also not only corridors don't have traps, but starter rooms too. And afaik explosion trap damage you by 80% of your current hp, not max hp as explosive chest do. So technically it can never kill you alone. If you go with matched party all your pomanders will disappear after 10 floors, so it's better use them (if you need to). No need to hoard them. But in fixed party they stay, so you may want to hoard some of them for later floors. At least not try to constantly deplete them. About pomander. Pomander of Strength increase your healing power too. Mandragoras from pomander of Alteration also give more exp than normal enemies. Mimics too and can pretty often give you a chest (especially with pomander of Fortune), so they can be worth it if your party is strong enough. And pomander of Resolution attack can oneshot (or twoshot) undead monsters, which are plenty of on level 97-99 (197-199 too). You still better left 1 or 2 for level 100 boss though. Also if you're in fixed (or even matched, but be careful there) party and you know no one need to upgrade their gear, it's better to leave silver chests alone. So you would not explode with them. At least in Palace of the Dead, because Heaven on High made them relevant even if you're 99/99. About Heaven on High. Afaik mimics there are always from bronze chest for the first 40 or 50 floors and after that always from gold one. I can be wrong, but there is a way to check bronze chest there to find out if it's a mimic or not. It's not work on others chests and in Palace of the Dead and it can be already fixed. You need to jump and try to click the chest while you in the air. Normal bronze chest should open, but chest with mimic will say "unable to execute command while jumping". Silver and golden chest will always say so. And bronze chest in PotD too so it may be fixed already. Uh. I thought it's only a few things... Sorry for this wall of text, I hope those additional tips will help someone too.

Had fun starting PoTD recently while leveling an arcanist/summoner. The only thing I’ll say is that the difference between a lvl 60 arcanist and a lvl 60 summoner is very large. The arcanist is missing out on a lot of good spells, most notably decent AoE. In not saying don’t go into PoTD without your jobstone, I’m just saying I noticed my effectiveness was noticeably lacking past floor 40. That being said, it really doesn’t matter if you play smart. (And a Rez on a dps can be a lifesaver, especially if your party lacks a healer). I’m sure a full party of classes without their jobstones could complete floors 1-50 easily, so long as everyone knows what they are doing. Shoutout to the party of three tanks I played with lol.

Good video, hard disagree on PotD being bad for learning a class, though. Sure, it's not going to teach you anything past level 60, but for learning the basic playstyle? I think it does that great. I personally find PotD great for wrapping my head around new classes especially. That is, starting solo from floor 1. Starting with a single ability and slowly unlocking more allows me to figure out the best way to use each (I already know how dungeons work, I don't have to actually go into one to know a positional needs to hit from the flank or back, or that my AOE is a cone/circle, etc) and even help me set up my hotbars better, as I like to completely empty my hotbar and set each ability as I get it, which gives me time to fully read and understand each one. Then once I hit 60 I stop at the next floor break and read each one after that and can preemptively set those on my hotbars as I far better understand the class, at which point I can then go practice in some dungeons or against test dummies with my full kit.

The worst thing about Palace of the Dead is the 1 hour time limit. If I'm going to die, let it be because it's a challenging enemy or a fight, and I screwed up or something - not because I arbitrarily ran out of time cuz I went to take a piss mid-way. You're just always so rushed because of that - timed quests are the most horrible mechanic ever invented. The other is the grind through the first 50 levels every time you have to re-start before you get any meaningful abilities that actually let you play your character, but this wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the first - and it's a fair compromise / risk / disadvantage to dying in there.

my general rule of thumb is to always play as if you're solo. sounds weird and egotistical, I know but it's the best way to play at least in my opinion. focusing on ourselves as a tank will make you use cooldowns 100% of the time, you will keep an eye out for stray enemies, never overlook a possible danger or mechanic. even as a healer this is the best way to play. the healer dies to mechanics, most likely everybody will die. as healer you will be forced to actually use things like sleep and watercanon to keep enemies at bay and controlled. same for dds. in regular content 99% of ranged dds don't use debuffs on enemies ever. same with situational skills like the bard ability to put up a shield that removes debuffs. this does of course not mean one should totally ignore other players but it helps to optimize one's own performance, in my opinion at least

True, it USED to be good.... that was over a year ago though. This is 2020, almost 2021 now, Shadowbringers era. People STILL advise on it. So it accurate as a myth, since SB should mostly be considered old and dead

Question from a RDM. What abilities should I use on the Giddy Bombs(blue bombs) that spawn with Boss 90? Everything I use kills the bombs outright rather than knocking them into the boss. I can survive this by spamming heals on myself but its risky. I've looked this up, but in every video I've seen the bombs spawn near enough near the boss to not need a knockback, which can happen, but not every single time. Thanks in advance for any tips or advice.

Are you sure you're seeing floor 90 and not 190? And the bombs that get knocked back have a ton of HP so you might be targeting the wrong ones?
@qamarqammar7629

@@WeskAlber Hi! thanks for your fast reply. Yes it is floor 90 and boss name is The Godmother. It is the blue bomb that I must knock back, the Giddy Bomb. My aetherpool is only 90/86 so I don't understand why anything I throw at them one-shots them. (the grey bombs that must be killed don't die in one hit at all for instance.). Also, I can survive with spamming heal so its ok, but I would love to know what I am doing wrong.

In case someone else reading this and has the same question (or maybe it's still of use to you), if you have low enough mana, you can use the uncomboed second or third hits of your unenchanted melee combo. They're instant, free, and only 100 potency.

@@whobdob 1-50 isn't instant. People also often wipe on 41-50, setting back progress. 51-60 has instant queues almost (but not instant) but requires the effort to get there. It's also a horrible way to learn a job. Also, queues for dungeons aren't even that long

Love this guide, thanks! I have two questions I haven’t found answers to anywhere else, though (I paused at 38 mins to write this). If I complete a boss floor, and I keep going instead of exiting, and then I die or my party dies, do we lose all progress from the beginning, or can we wipe, leave, and keep the progress through the last boss floor? 2nd, I hear that floor 51-60 is the sweet spot. So am i supposed to complete the boss on level 60, exit, and save in a blank spot? And then when i want to do those floors a again, I can just start at floor 50 by talking to the quest giver and then overwrite my previous level 60 save? Does that sound right?
@WeskAlber
2 жыл бұрын
You lose progress of that floor set. You don't get sent back to floor 1 unless on a trip of 101+. In the video itself I show you can start on floor 51. You cannot copy or overwrite save files.
