This video shows the steps for repairing a 20,000-gallon fiberglass underground water storage tank.
If you look at the crack on the inside of this fiberglass tank it is separated, and the reason we think it got separated is due to the installation process. The installers that backfilled the fiberglass tank must have dumped the first few loads directly on the tank. The weight of the fill caused the tank to crack and that is why you see this separation along this seam. This is why the tank is leaking. This is the only obvious spot. The plan is to fill the area with fiberglass, fill it solid and then add a top coat of fiberglass resin and fabric. That should cure the problem and once it is recoated the tank will be ready to use. The first step in repairing fiberglass underground tanks is to mix the resin so we can pack it into the crack. A half-liter of resin is mixed with a half-ounce of hardener to create a slower drying resin. The fiberglass crack is primed with fiberglass resin. Small squares of the fiberglass mat is cut and placed on the resin coated surface. An additional coat of the resin is added to the mat and then the pressed into the space with a paint stick.
