There are only a few places here in the Nature Park that fascinate me and almost magically attract me as much as this place. On the first ridges above the river valley, hidden in the middle of the forest, lies a very special natural spectacle. A spring moor, the only one of this size in the Nature Park. This habitat was granted ''Natural Monument'' protection years ago. A unique and extraordinary place.Twice a year I have the privilege of entering this ecosystem through my work as a park ranger to monitor developments or changes to this habitat. It is fascinating how many different habitats this ecosystem offers for animals and plants. Swamp areas, dead wood trees, reed landscapes, forest areas and dry zones. Now in autumn the animal world is a little quieter there. Most dragonfly species overwinter as eggs or larvae in hibernation. In other species, the adults die in autumn. Tree frogs also seek protection in frost-free places under roots, stones or piles of leaves. Only the native birds that spend the winter here are can be heard sporadically. But the sound of this ecosystem is not only audible above! In the boggy ground, which is connected like a network by moor eyes, water veins and roots, you discover and hear sounds that are usually hidden from the ear.In the first part of this series I try to acoustically capture the different sounds of dead wood and habitat trees and make them audible. For this recording I positioned the Geofone in the ground directly on the rootstock of a habitat tree that was moving in the wind. What an intense and extraordinary sound experience. What a wonderful place full of life and and diversity. These areas are coming under more and more pressure from commercial use of the landscape and human-made noise pollution. We need to pay special attention to these unique areas. We have lost too many of them in recent years!
Enjoy listening
If you can quality open headphones are recommended while listening at mid or low level.
