If you click "SHOW MORE" in the description above your be able to see Links to the Tools 🔧🔨🔧 I use. Also Clickable Chapters📋 📙 throughout the video and other Links 🎬 that may be of interest. I've had a few viewers request where they can buy the tools they see in some of my videos but it's not very clear that the "SHOW MORE" tab has a lot of information in that may be of interest. Admittedly the amazon links are associated with me and I would earn a small commission which helps towards keeping the channel funded.

Last rattle is definitely the clutch release bearing a piece of it has broken off and is being thrown around by the clutch when it's pushing against it.. it will eventually get very hot and melt/break apart, either seizing the slave cylinder arm and leaving you stuck in one gear. Need to do your clutch bearing or you'll need to do slave cylinder and other knock on issues.. love the video I've got a low pressure light that comes on in third and a slight rattle and I'm thinking my timing chain and oil pump is needing attention.. so this is very valuable. Thank you

Thank you Peter for the compliment. I'm afraid I'm going to have to correct you as I did a series on removing the gearbox kzitem.info/news/bejne/x4tsloOlh6GLd4Y and it was the release bearing guide tube. It's held on with 2 bolts and the tube had sheared off them. I changed it for £10 and the car has been running great ever since. Hope the video's help you with your car.

@@CoatsandGaiters ah yes the nose cone that the bearing slides up and down.. must have failed before the bearing. On mine the bearing welded itself to the nose cone and stuck the control arm causing the slave cylinder to fail too..

@@simonoxenham5493 The mounting torques were a nightmare to identify. I know the 2001 MINI has a different engine mount to this 2006 one. I did use the BMW workshop manual and the Bentley one so hopefully I got it right but things change with revisions. Bentleys say Hydraulic engine mount to body 100Nm. Will have to check BMW one again now. You might be right.

Couldn't help noticing that your induction hose (filter to manifold) appears to be held together with duct tape. I would check that as it will almost certainly be split allowing unfiltered air to be drawn into the engine. They aren't expensive and take mere moments to fit. Could be potentially very expensive if ignored. Great vids btw

I have a 2005 Mini Cooper R50, she starts up well and idle correctly. But when i press the excelerator and let off it she stalls for a bit and then goes back to normal idle. What would cause that? 🤔 I've changed coil pack , plugs &wires, fuel filter, camshaft sensor, throttle Body. And still is getting a Service Engine Soon light. It doesn't smoke , my headlight kinda dimmed down and when i moved the steering wheel! If anyone has any ideas please 🙏 help me out. Thanks

@CoatsandGaiters

Yes that's normal as the cam and crank rotate at different speeds so it might take 20 crank revolutions for example to realign. That one got me once so I carried on rotating and after a long while they aligned once again briefly.

I have watched all of these. I admire the honesty of the production. As a gift, I now have a 2005 base model Mini Cooper, and it needs a head gasket. The head has already been removed and I will not have that experience as a reference. In this condition, it is much more of a challenge, and this video provides me many of the procedures I need to be successful. I have experience with a number of other American/German autos, but it is the details that usually get you in the end, and I learn by watching. Like most good mechanics, I have a manual, but there is nothing like observing the process including and getting true advice along the way. Great job.

Thank you for that. I totally agree that the smallest detail can be the important one hence I try to go a bit OTT with every detail as that's what I would require myself being a non professional DIY mechanic.

I think it would be fairly hard as the bottom crank sprocket has the two marks on that line up with the two coloured chain plates.
