Don't understand why peeps are saying this is too fast? This is straight from his heart and he has the technique to deliver it.... are you saying Finbar's heart is too fast? The idea that there is some 'proper' tempo is absurd!

There's a doc. called "The Pipes, The Pipes are Calling" that traces the history of bagpipe-like instruments through history. I found it fascinating and that was where I was first introduced to Finbar. I think I like the Uillean pipes best, they seem the most mournful (or something I can't quite describe).

there is not enough of finbar video clips playing the pipes..i love his style and his feel.he uses such wonderful little touches to the furey brothers own songs, like their version of the green fields of france about 2/3 rds through the song the pipes come in just under the main melody to support the tune almost like a bass guitar.just one of the greats love davy spillane too but a way different style

finbar was a great piper....lovely regulators, excellent tuning.....an old comhaltas piping adjudicator said that as an underage piper nobody else could touch him, he was that good, winning many underage competitions. here he shows how good he could be.

love his pipe playing, always have..i 100% agree his version of the coolin is outstanding...he never gets much credit for his pipe playing, its a little different i know but he has amazing sense of melody.listen to the greenfields of france about 4min into the song when the pipes come in just under the vocal melody, most people miss it but it changes the whole mood of the song, just class...

In response to the question about the tune titles ... I'm not sure about the first bit, but the jigs seems to be a combination of The Blarney Pilgrim and Jim Ward's. The reels switch back and forth between The Ivy Leaf and The Crooked Road.

You know that conversation. Who would you have at your ultimate dinnerparty? And people are always going Stephen Fry, Ghandi. Jeebus, David Attenborrough. Or maybe Ricky Gervais, Billy Connolly, maybe that little fella Herr Gruber who used to just say 'my little Tank' in the 80's in Allo Allo.. I'd settle for one night on the lash, no dinner included with this man. A legend. I'll pay. Gladly.
