You know that conversation. Who would you have at your ultimate dinnerparty? And people are always going Stephen Fry, Ghandi. Jeebus, David Attenborrough. Or maybe Ricky Gervais, Billy Connolly, maybe that little fella Herr Gruber who used to just say 'my little Tank' in the 80's in Allo Allo.. I'd settle for one night on the lash, no dinner included with this man. A legend. I'll pay. Gladly.

Don't understand why peeps are saying this is too fast? This is straight from his heart and he has the technique to deliver it.... are you saying Finbar's heart is too fast? The idea that there is some 'proper' tempo is absurd!

finbar was a great piper....lovely regulators, excellent tuning.....an old comhaltas piping adjudicator said that as an underage piper nobody else could touch him, he was that good, winning many underage competitions. here he shows how good he could be.

In response to the question about the tune titles ... I'm not sure about the first bit, but the jigs seems to be a combination of The Blarney Pilgrim and Jim Ward's. The reels switch back and forth between The Ivy Leaf and The Crooked Road.

There's a doc. called "The Pipes, The Pipes are Calling" that traces the history of bagpipe-like instruments through history. I found it fascinating and that was where I was first introduced to Finbar. I think I like the Uillean pipes best, they seem the most mournful (or something I can't quite describe).

Beautiful playing indeed. Met Finbar at Redcar years ago; great concert. Asked him why he played so fast. Answer: "Because I can!" There's no answer to that beyond ENJOY!!! As a self-taught piper I DO!! But admit to slight envy.
