Why were the digital and analog readings so different? Super heat on Analog was 14 and Digital it was 7.5. Why is that?

Because it fluctuates depending on indoor / outdoor temps . Maybe after removing analog gauges and attaching digital ones outdoor indoor temps weren’t exactly the same etc

I have replaced a heat pump compressor(2ton) that had r-22 and i filled it with mo-99... replaced filter dryer, did a nitrogen pressure , pulled a good vacuum... the evaporator is a fur down unit (pancake) i checked both piston... blowers are ok ..the problem I have is that the compressor making a hissing noise, Low side 115 psi , 15 sh , vsat 71.4 , slt 86.3....hi side 168, -OL sc (no subcooling), 85 LSAT , 86.6LLT....had a a/c company called in and said was the valves 🤔 went ahead a replaced it with another compressor same problem no enough super heat/no cooling properly... Did replaced filter from the beginning...coils inside evaporator and condenser clean. I KNOW THERE'S A PROBLEM BECAUSE NO COOLING PROPERLY/HAVE USED DIGITAL AND ANALOG GAUGES BUT DON'T HAVE PROPER READING...I HAVE OVER CHARGE AND UNDER CHARGE IT ON PURPOSE TO SEE BUT CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT....

Is the indoor wet bulb temperature just a reading of the temperature inside the return ? Or is a special tool required to calculate it ?
@mystory1162
2 жыл бұрын
Craig, I wish you explained in this video better to its listeners WHY you are checking the WBT in the return at the air handler and not the DBT. So let me explain the missing info. You only check the WBT if the relative humidity is above 70% or below 20%. Anything in between you are to check the DBT at the return.

No. You can use the compound manifold gauge set (analog dial pressure gauges) and less expensive psychrometer to read the temps. No need for digital instruments.

I am trying to wrap my mind around what is happening to the gas if the SH is way low, I.e. you said "if low to 5 or so, we want to make sure we're not sucking liquid back too the compressor". So that would be overcharged robbing volume? causing a lack of space for expansion to take place?

I have a question if you have a 410a system with a txv and you have good temperatures like say 42 degree evap coil temperature and 11 degree SH and 8 degree SC but have low suction pressure of 95 psi and a head pressure of 305 psi is this a system that has issues like air flow or other problems
@hvacdoc2338
4 жыл бұрын
Michael Dreves Take your readings again. Something seems off. If you have a 95psi your coil would freeze. 95psi is a 28° evaporator temperature.

Thanks. What happens when a fellow employee insists on charging by sub-cool method on systems with pistons ?
@Sesamestreet9080
Жыл бұрын
We’ll sub cooling can tell you something also if you reading a piston system . Too high of a sub cooling can tell you it’s over charged so your next move would be to reduce sub cooling,
@bayouflats5054
Жыл бұрын
@@Sesamestreet9080 appreciate reply, but sub-cool method is for TXV system and superheat is for piston/ fixed orifice. And “I” find these scroll compressors to be very finicky and don’t last if not pretty much dead on. Oh well, he’s the sup, so it’s on his head, but man, in Deep South, summers are murder on units already, if a person is there working/ charging it…., why not simply do it correctly? 😖🤷♂️
@Sesamestreet9080
Жыл бұрын
@@bayouflats5054 definitely charge by superheat with piston, but knowing both will let you know what’s going on with the system , sub 6 on superheat means you’re flooding the compressor

On my old r22 system with a piston, is it true that if the vapor line temperature at the condenser is 41 degrees, (83 dry bulb for what it’s worth) the MOST my superheat can be is 9 degrees or so if my system is working properly? (Since the evaporator coil isn’t freezing, I took 41 and subtracted 32 to get 9). I have two 33 year old Armstrong air units and both work well. Clean coils, good air flow etc. I do not want to hook any gauges to them, there is just no reason. The downside of creating a schrader valve leak outweighs any knowledge I would get, since they are working very well. Delta T indoors is about 19 degrees which is just fine for me. I find this stuff very interesting. Thanks in advance.
