About yo Your grey water/toilet drain: where you broke the concrete to get into the pipe, build a square man whole deep with a lid where you can get into anytime and from there every 12 ft due same wall the way untill you reach the thank. also remove the existing drain pipe and replace with a larger one. by doing that you will increase the air flow in the pipe. and be cheaper .

Hi Christine. I'm glad you finally have a plumber that really helps you. Please use gloves when working with cement products. It's extremely corrosive and you can get cement poisoning.

Thanks Grace! Ironically he is actually an electrician by trade, but does plumbing work too. Unfortunately he is not available long-term, so I will need to find another - but yes, I'm glad he could fix this situation! Noted on cement poisoning - thank you for that advice! :)

man you have had your fair share of bathroom plumbing problems. I would fix it if you can now before you move into the kitchen pluming, and run into more issues. But I know the money is tight and getting other jobs done are just as important. Just a shame to finish the floors then have to go back again. Wishing you the very best and wow that floor looks amazing !

What I do here is pour a couple of buckets of water each week down the drains to help keep them free flowing. Gutter rain water is a great cleaner of sewer pipes. ATB

I live in the US and I think our slope has to be 1/8”-1/4” per foot. 1” in 8ft I think is my understanding. But the longer it has to travel the more slope the pipe should have. And the smaller the pipe the deeper the slope. 2% is usual for a 4” pipe. I’ve read comments suggest a macerater toilet which sounds very helpful. Also, perhaps if moving the direction of your tank isn’t an option maybe having the septic tank in the area near the fence. Maybe you’ll have to loose some trees though. 🤷♀️ There’s a tool sold for scraping grout out of grout lines. I think that could be helpful to remove the excess mortar pushing up through the grout lines.

i'm glad you got the bathroom fixed. For now. It's too bad that the original builders made a hash of the plumbing. Probably redoing it with a shorter straighter run will end up being less of a headache. I live in a rural Nova Scotia town. I stopped putting toilet paper down the toilet years ago. It was causing problems with blockages. It's incredible how much toilet paper one uses during a week. Also the slope to the sewer line is not quite right on. There has been no more problems. The floors look beautiful! 🙂👍

@@GirlMeetsFarm When they were being laid down, I noticed your waste pipes were going a long way from the toilet and on an horizontal level: they should be going downwards to allow easy flow. I don't think your builders were professionals, or even registered as a building business??? I doubt it. Another problem you'll have sooner or later... I noticed you built new walls on top of old ones... that's an ideal scenario for damp probems. You should have hired professionals such as an architec and prodessional builders. You can't make omeletes without eggs. There's no point blaming the cowboys... they are cowboys. You are responsible for your choices and will suffer the consequences of bad ones.

Hi. Sounds awful. Have you thought of a macerator toilet. ? It turns waste to a slurry and uses a pump to get it to the septic. Good luck 👍
@GirlMeetsFarm

HI Susan, The plumber that fixed it also suggested looking into a macerator toilet - however - he did warn me that they aren't foolproof either and that things get stuck in the grinder/blade thingy too. Although I love the idea that it may at least help with toilet paper, I think I have to address the bigger problem first 😅 Thank you for the suggestion though! :)

Thanks for the tip Ellen. I was actually quite intrigued by how hardworking they are. I still feed the birds where I used to feed Pidgy. i didn't quite have the right bird-seed and this was a change, but the ants seemed to enjoy them more than the birds. Now that I've switched back to the normal bird seed the ants have stayed at bay - or perhaps have stored their fill. 😂 But I'll remember that trick for when they are closer or inside the house :)

Hi Christine, love this video. Mucky as it has been for you. Gravity....a pump would help a great deal as was suggested. The tiles look amazing, be proud of your achievement. Grout and move stuff over. You'll be in your bed room by the weekend. The dremmel you can use for other projects. And begin the work on the kitchen/ dining/ living area. I would use larger tiles in that area or carry the tiles through and have a re- bate area to hold a large rug/ carpet. Looking forward to seeing your next videos of your renovation journey. Stay safe and sane.😊

In the U.S., the slope of any drain line is 1/4 inch for every foot of pipe. We also had a septic tank 15 ft. away from the house. Does yours need to be so far away from the house? But the floors look great.
@GirlMeetsFarm
Жыл бұрын
Hi Kristin, Thanks! I know for sure the slope is not big enough - we struggled going lower in the middle of the line due to the bedrock so both sides needed to be adjusted according to that mid-section - but it's not ideal, nor correct. It's meant to be at least 1:3, but it's not even that at the moment. The septic does have a min distance required from the house ( & water wells/aquifers) . We shall persevere! :D

If gravity can not handle the flow, then a PUMP should do it. People often put toilets here in the USA in basements and then pump it UP to the gravity outgoing pipes. You need to be aware of new legislation in Portugal for sceptic tanks. They must be built to conform to certain requirements to avoid polluting the ground water (freatic level). In the near future old sceptic tanks will have to be made redundant. Ask any local architec for timelines and requirements.

It’s extremely difficult to foresee construction problems, especially if you don’t have knowledge of construction methods. Therefore ,inexperienced homeowners should only hire contractors with known reputable records. Plumbing isn’t difficult if you know the basics and follow them.
