This is beautiful, but for our American friends who may have never worked with zucchini flowers before, it's important to mention you can remove the stem first. Also important not to pick them once they've closed up for the day or you may be frying all kinds of insects inside with your flowers lol. You can also cut them up and mix with shredded pieces of the actual zucchini in the batter to make little fritters which are excellent summer snacks!

I have fried them (stuffed, unstuffed, battered and plain) I have used the raw flowers in soups, pasta and salads and all vegan recipes. Love love love

Nasturtiums are edible as well and delizioso! I’ve been eating and making zucca fritters every year since I’m a little bambino, my nonno taught me. We’d sit for hours in the garden slicing tomatoes (he always carried a salt and pepper shaker) and he would talk and show me all sorts of different things like this.. grazie

A wonderful treat !!! My family normally does fried pumpkin blossoms. I love going out in the early morning to pick blossoms. I was taught at a young age how to distinguish the male from the female blossoms of pumpkin and zucchini plants. Only pick the male blossoms or you will not have any zucchini and leave some male to ensure the females become pollinated. It is easy to see you have only male blossoms. I could explain how to tell the difference but there are several videos that show how to differentiate them. On pumpkin blossoms the stamen must be removed when cleaning them to fry. Wonderful video!

Hello, Giovanna!! It’s so good to see you again!! 🥰 The zucchini blossoms look amazing. I’m from the Midwest and there was an Italian restaurant named Tosi’s that served fried zucchini blossoms. I never had them but heard about them. They also had a bakery and, fortunately, I enjoyed their wonderful cakes at weddings I attended. In May my husband and I spent a week in Ravello-my first time in Italy-and took day trips along the Amalfi coast. Lovely people, sites, and food. I have fallen in love with the country of your birth! Best wishes!! Marlene

I've read that it matters if you pick a male or a female flower to make sure you still get zucchini later in the season. Do you find that it matters?
@GiovannaBelliaLaMarca
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does matter if you want to grow zucchini as well as flowers. Sometimes flowers are attached to tiny zucchini, and it's a temptation to pick them and fry them; of course, if you can resist, you will enjoy the zucchini at the end of the season!

@@GiovannaBelliaLaMarca hmmm not sure...i know it as cavallo with broken pieces of spaghetti ....we boil the greens that come off the bulb of the cavallo aka kholrabi in english than make a soup of it with lots of garlic and broken spaghetti
@GiovannaBelliaLaMarca
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Johnny, you are describing my favorite soup from when I was a child. Pasta coi Cavoli; CAVOLI are the greens attached to the Kholrabi bulb , and my grandmother would heat the olive oil, fry the garlic until golden, add a chopped tomato or a few spoons of tomato sauce, add the chopped leaves, stir fry for a minute or two, add water to cover the greens plus two more inches, bring back to the boil, lower the heat and simmer 20-30 minutes until the greens are tender, add the broken spaghetti and cook another 10 minutes. Top each dish of pasta with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. My grandmother cubed the bulb and added it to the soup together with the greens, or she peeled it cut it into strips and gave it to us children as a snack, as she did with the core of broccoli. PS: Cavallo in Italian means Horse, and the only food that has the word cavallo in the name is Caciocavallo which is the typical cheese of Ragusa.
