On Saturday, at about 2:55 PM, Sheriff's helicopter STARR 1 received a request from Crockett Fire to assist with a grass fire near Highway 80 at Pomona Street.
Crockett Fire asked if STARR 1 would launch the initial fire attack by dropping water using the helicopters fire bucket. The fire was spreading and numerous structures were in imminent danger including homes and a refinery.
STARR 1 landed and attached the 144-gallon fire bucket to the bottom of the helicopter with a fifty foot line. A total of 55 buckets of water were dropped by STARR 1 extinguishing some of the flames.
At approximately 5:40 PM, Cal-Fire air resources relieved STARR 1.
