Asics and saucony are on fire this year. The novablast in my opinion has to be my favourite shoe to date, but I've just bought the endorphin speed and pro which I feel will overtake the Novablasts. Novablasts are comfy, more breathable, responsive and well engineered - some might say overengineered perhaps. Would be good to see your thoughts on the saucony endorphin range. I think you guys will love them.

I've been running in ASICS for years. In fact I only recently started to explore other brands. Last week I retired my yellow Kayano 24's after 805kms. They are now my dog walking shoes. I had mixed feelings about the shoe tbh. On the one hand I found them pretty comfy and could handle almost any run, long or short. Plus they seemed to last forever. Even after 800kms there was minimal wear on the sole and the upper was nearly perfect. What I didn't like was the weight, it's a heavy shoe and I also felt it just had too much support. The plastic cradle on the heel for example felt unnecessary. The 24's didn't have Flyte Foam, which I do like. I recently bought the new Noosa Tri 12's and had my first run in them this morning. Very nice and much bouncier than the Tri 11's which were a bit dull (altho I absolutely loved the Tri 11's). I also have the DynaFlyte 3's which also have Flyte Foam and I like those a lot as well. Don't think I'll be going for another Kayano in the future. Just not for me. I'm keen to try the Novablast but I've just bought three new pairs so that will have to wait a few months until I get some decent miles in the new kicks!
@thatguygreg
4 жыл бұрын
Also worth noting that I've heard the Kayano's are meant for heavier runners. For men over 80kgs so maybe they weren't the right shoes for me to begin with. Of course I only found this out after I'd owned them for a few months. They do hold up incredibly well tho, as do nearly all ASICS shoes I've owned. The Kayano's wear on the sole after 800kms is only slightly worse than the Adidas Ultra Boosts after 350kms (disappointing from Adidas). I have no doubt I could have squeezed another 300kms or even 400 out of the Kayano's if I wanted to but I was tired of them already.

@@kreigersingh3526 yes, I have both the first and second version. The first is pure magic, one of my fav shoes ever. Nearly 700km in them and still going strong. I got the Asics Gel Kayano 26. I love it. It's just a bulletproof stability shoe, with an exceptional durability. I also have the Hoka Arahi 4. Another stability shoe. I much prefer the Asics. It's more responsive and easier to drive forward on longer runs. For me the cushioning is a perfect mix of soft and firm, and the stability for me is top notch. The Arahi 4, while quite soft - feels a bit like running on a cigar box, and quite demanding to push forward when you get tired. A more pronounced rocker sole on the Arahi would have been great.

Don't get my wrong these brands that bring out new updates costing on excess of £100 or more are very good, the £50 I paid for my Skechers is money well spent for comfort & durability. Kayano is my father in law's shoe. As far as Acics go, they're nice, but I always felt over-controlled in them. But he's 6'3" and I'm only 5'10". When I ran in Acics I always liked the GT-2000 series. Also stability shoes, but felt less rigid. Like a gentle nudge into better foot rolling. @@alanharris67 outside of a couple of 8/10 mile training runs they didn't really have a lot to deal with. Then I used them for Brighton Marathon and it was the worse mistake I made. It's correct that they have good stability, but the bi product is they have no play when form drops and feet swell. I originally thought this was the side effect of the distance, but later realised the trainers were more your bog standard road shoe, not designed to go over a HM/21k. I used to quite like New Balance, but they're a bit too spongy. Only ever had Brooks Trails, so can't comment on their road shoe. Saucony for Road Solomon or Innov8 for Trail

What are your thoughts on stability shoes? Running gurus seem to hold different views on whether they do more harm than good.
@runningchannel
4 жыл бұрын
It's definitely an interesting topic. The Kayano has been a lot of people's go-to stability shoe, and many swear by it or similar shoes. I can only speak from my own experience, but I had always run in stability shoes, owing to having been told that I overpronated, but with more detailed gait analysis later I could see that my pronation was very 'late' and therefore wouldn't be helped much by a dual density midsole/ medial post. I spent a lot of time working in the gym on a combination of glute strength, knee alignment and foot/ankle strength and proprioception, and now run in a neutral shoe (and benefited from being able to run in slightly lighter, more responsive shoes). Everyone is different, and if you can comfortably run in a pair of shoes without injury or issue, then that's good enough for me! Andy

These shoes run narrow. If you have a wide foot, be prepared to have to go a size wider than usual. Fortunately, ASICS offers these shoes in up to a 4E width ( which in actuality is more like a 2E). Nice shoes otherwise. Typical outstanding ASICS build quality and cushioning.

Shame they don’t come in wider fittings 😒

You could try Hoka or New Balance, both offer wider fittings. Also Altra are a good shout, but they are zero drop, so you would need to transition slowly into them. Hope this helps!

Under armour surge 2 are better than the gel kayano 27 and at a fraction of the price I had these trainers and they hurt my feet they were too hard , then I bought under armour surge 2 and they were perfect all foam and more comfortable . Asics kayano look good but are not as good as surge 2 The surge 2 are £ 37 and better I'll never go back to Asics or brooks Waste of money sadly .
