The scene of Jack getting spiked still gives me nightmares. Did Jim trigger the spikes on either side of that massive spike or were they part of the elevator shaft? I could never figure that one out.
@Kromaatikse
5 жыл бұрын
Jack thought he was cutting power to the motors, but in fact he sped them up. Elevators have quite a few safety features - designed to protect people *inside* the box, not outside it in the shaft. The hydraulic buffer at the bottom, and the brake rails down the length of the shaft, are the best known and nearly universal. This one seems to have an *extra* feature to deal with upwards runaways, but due to more limited space at the top of the shaft, the buffers are of a folding type and only deploy when needed…

See, I never quite got Phelps' strategy here. Ok, he got Jack by overriding him in the elevator and triggered it to climb. And I get how he triggered the car bomb that killed Hannah, as he did it either as he climbed out of the river or Claire set it off. But what happens is Sarah doesn't get too close to Kreiger? Who kills her is she runs for it when she see Golitsyn being stabbed? And it's the same for Golitsyn. What happens if he walks a different route and not the one by the river where Kreiger is waiting for him? What happens if he goes the opposite way, past Hunt and Sarah? How does Phelps catch him then? Also, wasn't Golitsyn one of IMF's agents or a guy working for them? If it was a mole hunt, he had to know he was in danger, yet he gets killed very easily by Kreiger. Not the best guy to use for a sensitive mole hunt operation I'd argue. And what about Kittridge's plan for rooting out the mole. Sure, his 2nd team is only really observing Phelps' team to see what goes down. But say Hunt does a runner and doesn't come in because he actually is the mole. All it's achieved is the heist of an ok worthless fake noc list, but lead to the deaths of what he thinks are 5 good agents, 1 operative(Golitsyn) dead the fleeing of 1 bad one. Not the most effective mole hunt was it? Plus, didn't he start to get suspicious when they never found Phelps or Claire's bodies? Claire was supposed to be in the car, but they must have only found Hannah's body and they must have dredged the river, but again, they wouldn't have found Phelps. Wouldn't that seem a little strange and made them think those 2 might be alive and in on it too?
@darkjedi7
Жыл бұрын
I think Jim has thought of this very thoroughly. He knew that there's a spy within the spy that secretly monitoring the operation. He knew that Golitsyn is also a CIA undercover agent that served to recover a certain confidential CIA file. And since this is his team, he knew how his members will behave when unpredictable obstacle surface. But what he didn't know is that the "Confidential CIA File" that Golitsyn's supposed to be recovered turned out to be a trap bait by Kittridge to lure the mole, and since his original plan is to scapegoat Ethan, his plans were 50/50 fail and succeeded.

My guess is Kreiger wasn't originally part of the plan. I have a hunch that Keiger was working for Phelps, which leads me to believe that Phelps didn't know the NOC list was fake. Sarah just so happened go come across Kreiger and needed to cover his tracks.

I have the entire original series + all the movie sequels on DVD. The originals are still my favorite, But the movies are pretty good too, Except for the fact that Phelps was portrayed as a traitor at the end of the 1st movie. Many of us original series fans as well as many of the original cast, Will never forgive the creators or Tom Cruise for this. It is simply sacrilegious (grossly irreverent toward a hallowed person) or down right criminal. More appropriate would have been some sort of homage to Phelps (Peter Graves) Much like the ending of the great original show 'The Mind of Stefan Miklos.' Its sad that that such a terrible ending overshadows the entire MI movie series. But I doubt TC is overly concerned as he sits on his pile of millions.

I didn't like the plot that involved a love triangle and the writers reusing the scenario where an agent becomes rogue, it just made it felt more of a 007 esque film then a Mission Impossible film. Mission Impossible 3 was a little better because it brought back some of the source elements that the first movie had. I was just dissapointed with final fight with Owen Davian at the end, I think they half-assed that part.

The original TV show was a team effort to trick the bad guys into doing what the agents want them to do, while in the movies, Tom Cruise is the center of attention everywhere he goes. As Martin Landau, who played Rollin Hand on the show, said, "When they were working on an early incarnation of the first one - not the script they ultimately did - they wanted the entire team to be destroyed, done away with one at a time, and I was against that. It was basically an action-adventure movie and not Mission. Mission was a mind game. The ideal mission was getting in and getting out without anyone ever knowing we were there. So the whole texture changed. Why volunteer to essentially have our characters commit suicide? I passed on it ... The script wasn't that good either!" I enjoy the MI films.........but i think they should of given the franchise a different name, as in the first film, the writers set a precedent when they made a colossal error of judgement making Jim Phelps the villain......its a bit like making James Bond a bad guy, in a Bond movie.!

scrmepal its like make Etan M. Hunt villain in the next movie, or make Gandalf envoy of Sauron... But this good for this film, and they shouldnt changing this. This is brave plot twist, and franchise now cant do plot twists like this, the good guys always won, Ethan and his team cant die, and traitors enter in the team for their disclosure only. And of course, they do their job in the last split seconds, and do this success. There the cunning plans? This is good plot twist (but thery bad, like all bad and unhappy ends) and it for serial fans only (but of course, nobody liked it, and... it is justified) If its easier for you - think about Mission Impossible multiverce, and good Jim (with bad Ethan), and bad Jim (with good Ethan) is in different verces.

This is good moment, Brian De Palma managed to convey a sense of the abomination of betrayal. Not only spectator trust to Jim, Ethan trust to Jim, the whole IMF trust to Jim and he betray everybody. And the director of the movie contrive transfer this feelings of Ethan to spectator. The sence, understand? Not only good idea, not only nice visual, not only stunts, but feeling of betrayal of old good friend, who we've known for a long time..

I do like this movie. I give this a 6/10. But this isn’t my favorite MI movie. My favorite is Fallout.

Nathan Slay the whole series matured and found a consistent formula that now hold it all together. The first one had the best writers and a legendary director but they stayed too close to the feel of the tv series. Subsequent scripts began an expansion of the core concepts, the dangerous seeming stunts Tom does, the plot twists that spiral out of control, the development of better villains with greater ambitions. I’m fascinated where the next two will take them. What stunts haven’t they thought up to do?
