Love that album. (When you say “produced,” some might think he’s only a producer. Not an amazing singer/songwriter. Just sayin’.) I had a huge teenage crush on Tim. Only saw him twice, both times from first row (Central Park-Shaeffer; Max’s Kansas City NYC). Saw Jeff many times: first time was at a memorial concert for Tim in my hood (Brooklyn): blew everyone away. I knew a couple of performers and was going to dinner with one so went backstage... met Jeff. We didn’t have a “friendship,” but we shared a few beers after a few shows. Saw him about 15 times. Last time: CBGB’s. Glad to see someone mention Tim: he is deep in my heart. Both are. When youtube was younger you couldn’t find videos of Tim. But now there are some. Not nearly enough of course, but at least some. A good one of Honey Man.

@@tomatolady11 thanks for your condolences. And I am envious of your SF life. How I yearned to go there and be there. And so many more parks and outdoor concerts when everyone was just fledgling. I missed the summer of love-too young (im 66) but got everything else. Judy Collins was the first concert I went to age 14 then Phil Ochs (my hero) and then the Grateful Dead who player a few blocks from my home in an old movie theater. This is the most recorded anthem of the past decade or more. It's the product of the most gifted of rock/folk/pop songwriters of the past fifty years, the late Canadian Leonard Cohen, and the gifted young voice phenom and one-record wonder, Jeff Buckley, who drowned shortly after putting out the record (his father, fine singer Tim Buckley, died of an OD very young, as well). Leonard Cohen wrote an entire collection of great songs, most famously "Suzanne." Buckley's entire studio album is wonderful.

I'm not sure of the whole meaning of this song, but it contains a lot of references to the Bible. Particularly the account of King David and Bathsheba. David was walking in his palace one day when he looked out and he saw a woman bathing on her roof. He asked who she was and was told she was Bathsheba, a wife of one of his loyal generals, Uriah. So he summoned her, slept with her and impregnated her. When he found that out, he summoned her husband and essentially told him to take some time off, go home and sleep with his wife. But his general was too dutiful and wouldn't return home just yet, so to cover up the pregnancy, he gave a letter to another general telling him to put Uriah on the front line and have everyone but him retreat. When the deed was done, David took Bathsheba as his own wife

This song was written by Leonard Cohen from Montreal. It's been covered many, many times and is now very popular. You may want to actually listen to Cohen singing this himself as its available on KZitem. Cohen has written some brilliant stuff and you may want to investigate some of his other material.

Gives me chills every time I hear it. I listen to it at least once a week. Such a tragic loss. R.I.P.

Rufus Wainwrite did a cover of this that was on Shrek. It was written by Leonard Cohen, but basically everybody has done a cover. Rumor has it that Cohen wrote hundreds of verses, but only included like four when he recorded it. A few of the covers use a few different verses, but most of them are just gone.

This is a most converted song. But with utmost certainty this is the best cover of lenoard cohens hallelujah best compliment for an artist is imitation with the highest quality. This is it. I have the original copy on vinyl and it is the sweetest sound

Leonard Cohen the singer/songwriter who wrote this song, created 3 billion verses and Reddit has created 3 billion more. * How to Write Hallelujah You pick a phrase, you pick a rhyme, repeat the sound another time, Five iambs, then an extra beat will do ya. Another rhyme, a rising note - congratulations, you just wrote Another goddamn verse to Hallelujah! * ok, maybe only about 100.

He does very good, and I’ve heard many different people sing this. But Leonard Cohen wrote and sang it first . His will always my favorite rendition
