Elvis did have a 'dark' side, but what happened to him can happen to anyone. He always had trouble sleeping, and while in the Army they had to pull all-nighters on post watch. To go all day and all night is hard, so some guys started giving him uppers to stay awake on watch. This led to Elvis to thinking that prescription drugs can do lots of good things...keep you awake, make you sleep, dull the pain, etc so over time he allowed them to control his life. The last two or so years of his life it got out of control and his system started to get toxic, thus the weight gain. He was only human, just like the rest of us. He was a warm, kind, and generous man with a god-given talent that he shared with the world. Let's remember him that way.

At the beginning of his career he was very controversial because of the way he moved..he could only be shot from the waist up when he appeared on tv shows..then he went in to doing movies and they wanted him to move because he sold tickets..jailhouse rock is one of his best movies and not a lot of people know that the lyrics were very very controversial because for the first time he spoke about the gay relationships...yes gay..in 1957...unheard of..take the line ..number 47 said to number 3 you're the cutest jailbird I ever did see I sure would be delighted with your company.come on and do the jailhouse rock with me..he broke a lot of barriers in his short lifestyle..I loved this man when I saw his first movie when I was 11 years old..I'm now 71 and I love him more and more every year. Elvis did not have a dark side. He lived in different times to now with different values and expectations It all about context and Elvis has been loved from the time he released his first record , to date, over 7 decades. He was humble, honest, inclusive and always kind and loved his fans. He was so talented and could see talent in others , always giving credit where credit was due. He made 31 movies and 2 documentaries. Many were bubblegum pop for the fans, but King Creole, Love me tender, Jailhouse Rock, Charro,Flaming Star, are all really good. Thanks for keeping an open mind 👌🕺

The best thing to tell those who claim he stole music, is to tell them his 1st hit and multi platinum song was Heart Break Hotel in early 1956. It was written for him and number 1 on several charts, which was highly unusual back then. He made so many TV appearances in 1956 and early 57, each time singing between 2 and 7 songs per appearances, he had to sing some songs by other artists, because there were no enough written for and recorded by Elvis yet. All singers cover other people songs. Little Richard said by Elvis singing a few of his songs, he made the song bigger and Little Richard bigger. Not one black singer back then who knew Elvis, had a bad word to say about him. Elvis was the whole package, looks, charisma, dancing and stage humor. Tell these know nothings, that Elvis spent the yrs from birth to almost 14 growing up and playing with black children, and attended both black and white churches. If they don’t believe you tell them to checkout the interview with Mr Sam Bell, who was interviewed for last yrs Elvis biopic. He said the black adults, including his grand mom, because Elvis said yes man, no mam and yes sir to all adults which was unusual in 1940s Deep South. The truth is out there all they have to do is read and watch interviews with blacks who spoke about him. The only one who has said he didn’t think Elvis was that great, was Ray Charles. Ray Charles was blind, thus he could not experience the whole package which was Elvis.

Elvis made 31 movies. this movie was called "Jailhouse rock" and this was a scene. He was sort of a bad dude in this one. He was beautiful however so most fans forgave him for being so mean. Ha. I saw this in real time. It was hilarious when he came on the screen in the first scene girls stood up and screamed. He was that popular. He was born in 35 and began his career in 1954. My father wouldn't let me watch him on tv. He was considered too sexual. He was banned on tv, and only shown from the waist up. You need to watch a short doc on his struggle in the racist 50's white stations would not play black music till he changed that. React to "Elvis Presley and the Black Community" the echo will never die. Then you will get it. Thanks great reaction.

This was extraordinarily offensive to many people. This scene forever changed music, and American culture … both white and black and everyone in between. The police and politicians would threaten Elvis with arrest. Local groups were threatening Elvis with violence, Even owners of diners or bars with jukeboxes that tried to play Elvis’s music were harassed and threatened. The reason being is that many older folks down south especially, saw this music as a huge threat to their children. They blamed Elvis for juvenile delinquency and blamed him for moving around a stage like Black people did. So you had the spark of the youth revolution of the 50s colliding with the civil rights movement of the 60s . Then comes jailhouse rock -- and there goes Elvis in Hollywood on the silver screen parading in front of multiple police officers with batons having a great time and dancing and singing music lol Elvis put on a hell of a performance acting … Oscar grade… and scored so many new fans of all ages that it was too late to stop it. After jailhouse rock was made, it was obvious that no one was going to stop Elvis Presley or rock ‘n’ roll from spreading around the country.

The next movie I would set your sights on would be king Creole look for a 4K version of the song Crawfish. He sings a duet with an amazing black jazz singer by the name of Kitty White. They were absolute fire on screen.

apparently, Elvis took his parents to a private screening of the film, and that was the last time he ever watched it because of what happened to his co-star Judy Tyler. She was killed in a tragic automobile accident just three months before the film was released. “Nothing has hurt me as bad in my life,” Elvis said publicly about Judy’s death. “All of us boys really loved that girl… I don’t believe I can stand to see that movie we made together now, just don’t believe I can.”

I know my comment is very long but I hope you will take the time to read the entire thing. I think you will be glad you did. I have loved Elvis since I was 12 yrs old. I'm now 76. I have many books about him and I've learned as much as I can about his life. He actually died of a heart attack, NOT a drug overdose(as many people like to say)! He did not drink alcohol or do ANY illegal drugs. He took a lot of prescription drugs because he trusted Doctors completely. He suffered with many illnesses during his life. Born with Mega Colon, he had to use laxatives throughout his life. He had early onset glaucoma, which is why he sometimes wore sunglasses on stage, and in many videos he looks as though he's crying because his eyes are watering so much. It was very painful for him. He also was prone to bouts of tonsillitis, but refused to have his tonsils removed because he was afraid it would affect his voice. His dedication to his fans was unparalleled, and he would do whatever he could to avoid disappointing them! He had other health problems too, which you can read about in the book "Destined to Die Young" by Sally Hoedel. You will learn many things about his life, including his ancestry. A MUST READ for any Elvis fan!!! Please continue to react to Elvis, and thank you for continuing to stand up for him. He was a wonderful human being as well as a multi-talented performer. THE BEST EVER!❤❤❤

Without a doubt, those demons did start to show the last years, when he was a prisoner of his humongous fame, unable to leave Graceland except in the dark of night. To the end, he gave his all, every last ounce of energy he had, on stage for his fans.

It's a scene from one of his early movies which were really good before he got taken advantage of by his manager. It is widely regarded as the first music video ever. But if you want to see him live even younger than this, there are several television appearances, and a few bits of really rare early stuff from right when he was barely breaking, in which you can see how nuts he really was earlier with his moves and his exuberance. But I would check out hound dog from the Milton Berle variety show in June of 1956 when he was like 20 or maybe 21. And then that led to just a huge backlash from religious and racist people, but on the other hand a lot of people loved it, and it's worth seeing him at this really young formative age.

This was Elvis' third movie "Jailhouse Rock" (1957). His first two were "Love Me Tender" (1956) and "Loving You" (1957). After this one, he starred in one more called "King Creole" (1958), before going into the Army for two years. "King Creole" was Elvis' own personal favorite of all his 31 movies. When Elvis left the Army in 1960, he began making movies again, becoming the highest paid star in Hollywood throughout the first half of the 1960's.

Particularly the verse: "Number 47 said to number three "You're the cutest jailbird I ever did see I sure would be delighted with your company Come on and do the Jailhouse Rock with me" Back then lyrics couldn't even hint at something as taboo as homexuality in prison and yet you can see that the lyrics made it into this version.

You are judging the up tight 50's with today, I lived in the 50's when I got married in 63 my husband had to explain what homosexuals were. No one would dare put it in a song. County jails were not prison. They were side by side compounds with women on one side and men on the other, with a big anchor fence between. Often relationships were forged at the fence. The two old guy from New York, who were Jewish guys never for a minute thought of a gay agenda. It was such an innocent time. You need to study history.

See back in the 50's county jails for men and women were side by side, separated by a tall anchor fence. When they were let out during the day for rec time 'the men hustled over to the fence and flirted with the women. We are talking about COUNTY Jail not prisons. Two old Jewish guys from New York wrote the lyrics and I am sure at that time were not pushing a gay agenda. The record release of Jailhouse Rock was a huge hit. It’s a little different and better version than this movie version. As for the Elvis haters. Only two reasons they hate him. 1. Envy and jealousy or 2. They have no clue about what he was all about , what he did for not only music but culture. Many things your not aware of today he was the first to do and that includes a lot of what rappers do. The bling , the clothes the cars , the flash , the entourages etc I could keep going for days explaining his greatness. Lol. Everyone comes around to Elvis ! May take awhile but they do. I guess some of the negative emails you get are about Elvis having a "thing for underage girls" because he first met Priscilla in Germany when he was 24 and she was only 14. This happened some weeks before Elvis left the army. Priscilla has emphazised many times that he did not sleep with her. Elvis had just lost his mum, and was very voulnerable at the time. They jused to talk a lot, and grew a close connection. They kept in touch, and she moved to Memphis at 17. They married when she was 21, and their daughter was born exactly 9 months after the wedding. One have to remember this was in the 50's, it was very common for women to become engaged and marry at a young age. Elvis was just a man of his time. This was not kept a secret at all back then, the press knew all about it. Priscilla was filmed at the airport when Elvis left Germany. The newspapers wrote about "the girl he left behind", and he also mentions her at a press conferance. It's all on KZitem. Some find her young age disturbing, and of course this is not axeptable today. You can however not judge people back then by today's standards. If you do your research you will find that Elvis had many girlfriends his own age, and never had a "thing" for minors. Before Priscilla he was with Anita Wood for 5 years. There are also very sweet and interesting interviews with former girlfriends Barbara Hern and June Juanico, who both knew him during the times he grew famous. He was a womenizer for sure, but they all speek higly of him. Elvis is always being described as a very nice guy, and a real southern gentleman.

Back in day if you were dancing the jive, if you didn't have a partner you held on to a chair because your feet moved so fast you needed something to hold onto.
