Great reaction and welcome to the Sabaton Army! Yes, this really happened and that's what Sabaton does, tells history through Metal, they even have their own history channel! If you want a really good live video from the band, try En livstid i krig as your next song. It's in Swedish but there are subtitles for it, it will knock your socks off!

CV great reaction! I'll leave the complete information to the Sabaton experts, what I do know... Yes, this is a true story that happened during WWI. Also, the guy with the long blond hair in the beginning that was blown back by the grenade, the first out of the trench, and the one you saw exchange gifts and hug the enemy solder is Hannes Van Dahl, Sabaton drummer and Floor Jansen's husband. Also, you missed the vocals during the ending credits, that was Floor!

Welcome to the Sabaton rabbit hole. I'd suggest their music video version of Bismark just for the fantastic video and music. Steel Commanders is great too. But I'm a long time fan. Everything they do is great to me.

Sabaton has a loooong list of history based music. and as you say an award winning history channel that gives background to over 100 songs also, Sabaton videos are often have dedictions and/or messages at the end, do watching to the end is frequently well worth it . Animated STORY videos (short history lessons with music videos in them) No bullets fly Night witches Lady of the dark Red baron epic ones, Bismark, about the sinking of the ship Defence of Moscow, self explained. Christmas truce, about the spontaneous truce in some parts of the western front during Christmas 1914 40:1, about polish soldiers, badly outnumbered (just under 750 in all) facing 42 000 germans, they where BADLY outgunned desperately defending against the German invasion 1939 Uprising, the Warsaw Uprising against the nazi germans during 1944. To hell and back, they tell the story of Audie Murphy (highly decorated) and his struggle AFTER the war, so about PTSD and drug addiction that returning soldiers can face. Fields of verdun, the 300+ day long battle fought there. Price of a mile, about the battle of Passchendaele Screaming Eagles, about the battle of the bulge Live performances 40:1 from poland Uprising from poland En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (in Swedish but there are subtitles) , very heavy again, about thoughts of a young man going to war. these are just some, there are plenty more.

Not sure if you knew some of the extended history of the aftermath of the Christmas truce: both sides were also digging tunnels to the other side. So close to one another that they could hear each others through the dirt and mud. After Christmas, the diggers on both sides would actually call out to the other tunnel and warn them before blasting to give them time to get out of the area. This was done on both sides. And, at the same time, both sides continued singing in the tunnels as they dug. It was a sign of mutual respect for each other: knowing that they, the KIDS, on both sides of No Man's Land were little more than conscripts forced to be there and had enough understanding and respect for their fellow man to know that, at any other time, any other place, both sides would love to just go to the pub and share pints together as friends.

This song is base on a small stretch of the front line, where the germans were singing Christmas carols on christmas Eve, and the lines came together to celebrate christmas. it ended on christmas day after the enemy's came together for christmas. The commanders of those areas actually gave orders to not do this again under penalty of death to the solders

Great reaction and welcome to an awesome rabbit hole!🤘 Sabaton have a unique way of writing songs that put you right in the middle of the event. It's like you were there. I highly recommend "No bullets fly" (animated story video), "Bismarck" (official music video), "En livstid i krig" (live from the Great Tour, Gothenburg, 2020. Subtitles on, the song is in Swedish!) and "Lion from the North" (official lyric video or music video from the Great Tour. Some history of the Swedish Empire there for ya!😉🇸🇪 Also check out their history channel, Sabaton History!

If you want an awesome live song with sabaton you should react to en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) live Scandinavium Gothenburg. The album carolus rex that they had released during that time is about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) it is the Swedish version of the song (the album was released with both a Swedish and English version) during that time Sweden was one of the ruling powers. It is the Swedish version so be sure the subtitles are on, I was at that show and all I can say is that you wont regret it.
