Silver Pomfret made in a rich red gravy which is sweet, spicy and tangy
Ingredients
500 to 600 gms Whole Silver Pomfret
Ingredients for Fish Marinade
1 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon kashmiri chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
Ingredients for Lagan Nu Patio Masala
8 to 10 Whole dry Kashmiri Chillies
10 Garlic cloves
10 Cashew nuts
1/2 cup grated Coconut
1 and 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
3 tablespoons vinegar
2 large tomatoes
1 teaspoon salt
1 and 1/2 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon Garam Masala powder
6 tablespoons Oil
Method
Take a large Silver Pomfret around 500 to 600 gms
Clean, wash and cut it into 3 pieces
Sprinkle 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon Kashmiri chilli powder and 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder over it
Rub the Masalas over both sides of the Pomfret pieces and keep aside
To a mixer grinder add 8 to 10 Whole dry Kashmiri Chillies deseeded, 10 Garlic cloves, 10 Cashew nuts, 1/2 cup grated Coconut, 1 and 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds,3 tablespoons vinegar, 2 large tomatoes and grind to paste
Place a large deep pan on medium high heat and add 6 tablespoons oil
To this add the ground chilli paste and stir and cook this for 3 to 4 minutes
Cook this stirring constantly until oil leaves the sides
Add 1 teaspoon salt, 1 and 1/2 tablespoon sugar, 1/4 teaspoon Garam Masala powder and stir for a minute
Add 1 cup water and stir everything well
Add the marinated pomfret pieces kept aside to this
Let it come to a simmer
Cover and cook this for 5 minutes turning the heat to medium low
After 5 minutes open and gently turn the pomfret pieces
Cover this once again and cook for another 4 minutes with the heat on Medium low
Open after 4 minutes and let it simmer for 2 minutes
Remove from heat and enjoy this lovely fish patio with some rotis or Dal Chawal
