'Saas ni Macchi' is cooked authentically with Silver Pomfret and in a sweet and sour sauce .This is a popular dish served in Parsi wedding - Navjotes . It is also a popular home-cooked meal, generally accompanied by Parsi Khichidi or plain Basmati rice.
Ingredients
500 gms Sliver Pomfret - cleaned and washed
1 and 1/2 tea spoon salt
1 medium onion finely chopped
5 to 6 Garlic cloves finely chopped
5 to 6 green chillies finely chopped
1 and 1/2 table spoons all purpose flour
2 tablespoons dark vinegar
1/2 tea spoon cumin powder
3 tea spoons sugar
1 medium tomato chopped
2 table spoons coriander leaves chopped
5 table spoons oil
Method
Wash and clean the Silver Pomfret and cut in large pieces.
Sprinkle 1/2 tea spoon salt over this, rub the salt well in the pomfret and keep aside.
Place a deep flat pan on medium heat and add 5 table spoons oil
Add 1 medium onion finely chopped and fry for a minute
Add 5 to 6 Garlic cloves finely chopped, 5 to 6 green chillies finely chopped and fry for another 2 minutes
Add 1 and 1/2 table spoons all purpose flour and fry for 1 minute
Add 1 cup water and mix everything, it will turn into a slightly thick sauce
Add additional 1/2 cup water to thin this sauce and stir
Add 1 tea spoon salt and stir it in
Add 2 table spoons dark vinegar and stir it in
Add 1/2 tea spoon cumin powder, 3 tea spoons sugar and stir everything together
Add the silver pomfret kept aside and stir gently
Cover the silver pomfret with the sauce and add 1 medium tomato chopped over the pomfret and at the sides
Cover and cook for 3 minutes
Open the pan, pick it up and gently swirl the pan so the sauce and tomatoes mix well
Gently cover a bit of sauce on the top of the fish
Add 2 table spoons chopped fresh coriander
Cover and cook for another 3 minutes
Open and simmer for a minute and remove from heat
Enjoy this lovely fish with some hot Basmati rice or Parsi Khichidi
