Introduction
Welcome to a video about a problem encountered when booting a PC
Booting
While this PC is booting we run into a problem . . .
First there is some good progress: listing the BIOS-version, memory test, then . . .
Booting - Floppy disk(s) fail (40)
The system detects a floppy disk failure,
because there isn't a floppy.
There are also no hard drives.
However this PC should boot from the network.
So we need to check the BIOS settings.
Look out for the instructions of how to enter BIOS setup.
Booting - Press F1 to continue. DEL to Enter SETUP.
Let's do it
* -- keyboard -- DEL
BIOS Setup
The first level of the BIOS setup.
BIOS normally has instructions of how to move around.
Esc : Quit
Arrow Keys to move around
Let's have a look around.
* -- keyboard -- Down Arrow
* -- keyboard -- ENTER
Remember we are interested in the floppy drive, failure modes, and the boot sequence.
BIOS Features Setup
Press down arrow four times
* -- keyboard -- Down Arrow
* -- keyboard -- Down Arrow
* -- keyboard -- Down Arrow
* -- keyboard -- Down Arrow
BIOS Features Setup - Boot Sequence [C, A, SCSI]
Our old friend "boot sequence",
we often need to look here,
but in this case, this is OK,
let's carry on down twice.
* -- keyboard -- Down Arrow
* -- keyboard -- Down Arrow
BIOS Features Setup - Boot Up Floppy Seek [Enabled]
"Boot Up Floppy Seek" is set to "Enabled",
but there is no floppy drive attached,
So change it
* -- keyboard -- Right Arrow
BIOS Features Setup - Boot Up Floppy Seek [Disabled]
Now it's disabled,
That's probably fixed it.
[Note that different BIOS software may have a different terminology for settings]
Now we can start to exit and save settings.
Hit "ESC" to get back to first level.
* -- keyboard -- ESC
BIOS Setup
Then hit "ESC" once more
* -- keyboard -- ESC
BIOS Setup - [popup] Save to CMOS and Exit (Y/N)?
We are happy to save and exit, so hit "Y"
* -- keyboard -- Y
Booting
The reboot starts again . . .
Outro
That time it went on to boot OK.
There are more details in the description.
