Maybe stupid question….. Let’s not consider why only that for some reason you look down and notice your E-model CAT is over heating (not extremely) but 225+. Is it better to cut the engine immediately or turn the fan on and let the temp come down gradually?? Thank you… If you have covered this previously sorry I missed that..

I think more mechanics should do videos. I believe a lot of the reason people are bringing their trucks to you specifically is because you've proven yourself to be a very knowledgeable and very competent mechanic that is also highly detail oriented. Have this channel and showing your work gives people comfort knowing that they're stuff is being repaired by someone that will make sure the issues are fixed before you sign off on the truck and let it leave the shop.

@@malchone1 you hit the nail right on the head man. That's another reason why people take their stuff to people like Josh. My step-dad has a 2000 7.3 powerstroke that he recently started having trouble starting and took it to a local shop because he was so busy at the time he didn't have time to fix it. They put in a new high pressure oil pump and that didn't fix it so they did another High pressure pump and that still didn't fix it so they put in a low pressure oil pump. They did all sorts of stuff and threw all sorts of parts at it with no luck and charges for every dime. My step-dad finally had enough and took the truck back still dealing with the same problem. He was able to get some time to work on it. A set of 8 glow plugs later and the truck started with no issues. Mechanics now a days are so bust trying to charge as much as possible they don't bother checking the most basic things. Like in this situation I'm sure a different mechanic would've just done a whole new transfer pump instead of just fixing the pressure regulator.

Good info there, with the fuel check valve there the torque is important. we had the pressure gauge on the fuel and slowly torqued the valve up and over torqued and the psi would change, set at spec. it is correct psi. A trick with the viscus damper is take the temp with a temp gun before starting, cold engine then run for 5 mins and take the temp, it should be warmer then the first temp reading due to the internal ring moving through the fluid inside the damper, if the fluid has gone bad (hard) there is no temp change. We change them at 800,000 km/500,000 mi as precaution to save crank.

Don't worry, Josh - _damper_ is the proper term everywhere. Because it _damps_ the vibrations. Same as how a "shock absorber" is actually also a damper (and it's the spring that actually absorbs the shock.) A dampener would be something that makes things wet. 😁

It is a honor for a tech, when a customer request you and you only. Back in the day I had a few out of state customers. I dislike checking fuel psi at the quick disconnect port. The psi is before secondary fuel filter and you do not get a true reading of cylinder head psi. I have done this a few times when I just can't fuel psi where I like it. I take the 75 lb regulator apart and give the spring a little pull. I have also seen people use the 100 lb regulator out of a REGEN engine. I have never tried that, afraid of blowing EUI seals out. Also on older FTP taken that spring out and give it a pull as well. Any time I have the front damper off, I try and talk the customer into replacing the front seal. I also like to data log and do my high speed five cylinder cut out test and see what RPM's each cylinder will hold. Fan off, A/C off, Air compressor off.

There's also a fuel bypass valve in the engine mounted fuel filter head. As for that pump spring, that's a light spring. Stretching it an inch and putting it back in does the same thing. But, given the likely age/miles on the pump, I've had them go bad at 250k miles before. Anything over 400k, for sure replace it. Not much more money than replacing the pump, after core is returned.

I have recently bought a 2007 F750 with what i believe is a C7. It ran fine for about a month then all of a sudden as I'm driving right before it shifts into the next gear it loses power and smokes real bad. If you push harder on the throttle it kind of smoothes out and shifts on into the next gear. I hooked up a fuel pressure guage today while driving. At idle I'm getting about 55 to 60 and while driving it gets up to about 75. Is that anywhere close to spec on that? We also pulled off the valve cover and pressurized the oil system and everything seems fine there. If there is any direction that you can steer me it would be greatly appreciated.

I’m trying to solve shudder when I kill the ignition in my Toyota 5L 3.0L non turbo Diesel engine. When replacing the vacuum hoses, a brittle connector snapped off the VSV valve. I replaced the valve and now it feels like the engine wants to jump up and left from the bay. The idle up valve is in good condition and the butterfly valve closes when released in test conditions. The shudder is synonymous with the valve not closing 100% when the ignition is killed. It has me stumped.

So I understand that a damper pulley replacement should be a regular basic maintenance on any engine! (lol, red vision ^^ WRONG !!! ^^ )
