I would like to keep them a bit longer, so I will handle the chainsaw with more care next time. I was surprised at how easy it ate the cover.

The manual for that chainsaw says that the rubber part you were wondering about is a vibration cushion. There are several of them. The exploded view shows four of them. Keep up the awesome content! 😁

Thanks for that. As the weather gets a bit warmer and my health slowly improves I'll see if I can restore the success of my channel a bit :)

Thanks for sharing another great video with us! I always use what is called a figure 8 knot on my starter cords, it doesn’t slip like an over hand. Also it makes the knot just a smidge

@@Rolingmetal Then do that overhand knot but put one more "through the hole' in it. Bingo a wider knot (not as good as a figure eight but it still works, especially if you put a drop or two of Super Glue on the knot.)

Usually the auto sub generating does a good job on my English, but some word will be difficult. Lathe, almost always becomes life. Must be my pronunciation :)

I always put 2 knots in the end of the cord to keep the end of the cord from pulling through the knot.

Aesthetics, sometimes fucks me up :) Two knots would not fit inside the handle.

I was taught to use a chain saw by someone who had done a course. I didn't do the course my self, that would be to sensible. :) The big take home was to always put the chain brake on when starting. Then put the brake on when ever you put the saw down or move to another location between cuts. Chainsaws are the most dangerous tool you can use apart from a gun. Something is wrong if you use a gun as a tool I reckon :) Glad you can still count to 10 because Octal is a pain in the arse. (base 8)

I always though that brake was there to annoy me when I accidentally had engaged it :) I should try and force myself to use it. I might not be lucky next time.

@@Rolingmetal If you look at the placement of the brake lever it is really easy to flick it on every time you put the saw down or move your feet to another spot between cuts. It’s really meant to come on if the saw grabs and is ripped out of your hands. You can’t help but punch the break. I might do a video on the most dangerous part of a chain saw. I’ll do it with the saw off. I’m would never be game to try it with the saw on.

A fabulous method to lock up a knot is to wet it with superglue.

Someone else mentioned that idea as well. Sounds like a good one, I will certainly try it out.

I put a several drops of super glue on knots that should stay knotted.

That's a good idea, I will try that next time. I'm not sure how good super glue works on a dirty greasy cord.

Now the washer will do a better job cutting the chord than the plastic handle did. You should drill the handle WITH A TAPERED DRILL, NOT FLAT. Then a rat tail file to take the inside hole sharp edge away
@DavoShed

Originally I thought the knot pulled through the handle as the handle was stuffed. Now I see that it actually snapped off. I'm sure Roling will come up with something better if it snaps again. Perhaps the cord is past it's prime and it should be completely replaced. If it snapped in the middle you wouldn't think twice about replacing it.
@Rolingmetal

You might be right on that, time will tell. The cord probably had it's best days.

That is what happened the first time. I had to cut out the knot and make a new one. Perhaps I used to much heat. At some point the cord will have to be replaced. It does look tired.

@@Rolingmetal If it starts it’s good :) Only trouble is, it breaks when you really want to use it. I wonder if you can clutch start a chain saw? :)

You did not need to have the knot so close to the end, there is a GOOD chance that it will roll a bit and come undone again. It would not have mattered if a short bit of the cord popped out the top of the handle. Either a double knot or a figure of 8 knot would also be an advantage. WHY did you not have the CHAIN BRAKE on before starting it up ? You are lucky still to have your hand / fingers. Please take care as if anything happened to you I would miss your videos and your voice. Regards from Australia.
