Looking good, I've got it down to where I actually recess the stone into the studs and use no kurdi or anything under the stone....yes most if the time it is quartz I'm using and I double up the thickness not marble. I've done a few now but it's a pain to get it just right while I'm working with the walls open

That Schluter channel is designed to screw to the wall first on 3 sides. Slide in foam and cover front

First time I have heard that, and I have done more of these linear drains than I can remember.

I'm talking about the z-channel to attach the foam board bench support to the walls. That metal channel is screwed to the wall first, with a bead of kerdifix on the 3 sides of the shower. Slide in your bench foam and put front channel on.

@@larrys5733 U channel?

@@mattskionet Whatever you would like to call it. It's called the ZB profile U-channel support. Or z-channel in my part of the country. Either name you call it, best practice method is to first "wrap" the foam bench in the channel. Then, remove it from channel, adhere 3 sides of the metal channel to the shower walls with screws and kerdifix, then re insert the foam and cover with the front edge with the remaining channel piece . Now the channel is properly attached to the studs and you can continue waterproofing. Early Schluter videos show merely thinset or kerdifix holding the bench to the wall. We are best practice installers and using only adhesive is not a best practice

@@larrys5733 I know this is old, but I watched this and instantly was confused. The u channel is supposed to lock into the walls with screws and the kerdi is supposed to slide into them. No way that bench is going to last as long as it should.

Hey Sal since the bench sticks out a lot so you still cut a piece tile to cover the metal trim or leave it alone since no one can't see it?

Is there a piece of tile/stone going on the front underneath the front edge of the quartz? to cover the metal?

He said he's putting supports in 3" back from the front. Not sure if the back was getting cleated or not.

Looking good Sal, Im curious why you used both the sealant method and the hydroban liquid method to waterproof your seams and screws?

I've always had a welder make a 2" SS bar with flanges to bolt to the framing. Usually about 100$. Either way, floating benches is a really nice look

Shluter ZB profile U channel. We call it z channel. But it's supposed to be screwed to the wall on 3 sides first. Then you slide the foam in and put on the front channel. It is a perimeter support for benches. Using the front channel only is IMO pointless.
